If you are looking for some ideas for Valentine’s Day, I’ve got you covered in this post!
Valentine’s Day, also called Saint Valentine’s Day or the Feast of Saint Valentine is celebrated annually on February 14. Originating as a Western Christian feast day honoring one or two early saints named Valentinus, Valentine’s Day is recognized as a significant cultural, religious, and commercial celebration of romance and romantic love in many regions around the world, although it is not a public holiday in any country.
The day first became associated with romantic love within the circle of Geoffrey Chaucer in the 14th century, when the tradition of courtly love flourished. In 18th-century England, it evolved into an occasion in which lovers expressed their love for each other by presenting flowers, offering confectionery, and sending greeting cards (known as “valentines”). Valentine’s Day symbols that are used today include the heart-shaped outline, doves, and the figure of the winged Cupid. Since the 19th century, handwritten valentines have given way to mass-produced greeting cards – Wikipedia
Ideas for Valentine’s Day
I actually put this post of Valentine’s Day ideas together back in 2012, when The Purple Pumpkin Blog was still very new, and I was a younger blogger that didn’t really know what she was doing quite yet!
I started to see this post pop up on Pinterest recently, so I thought it was high time it got an update. I don’t have a lot of Valentine’s Day content on my blog, mainly because it’s one of those things that seems to creep up on me, and I’m often busy doing other things, so forget to create something…
However, I have had my moment’s over the years, and so I thought it best to collate them all here too!
Several of the ideas for Valentine’s Day that I’ve linked to in this post all those years ago still work, so I have kept those below. Of the links that don’t work, I’ve kept the images up, as they will still provide a source of inspiration. Thanks to the bloggers and websites that had awesome ideas that I was able to share. This was back in the day before Pinterest is what it is now, and when I didn’t know any other bloggers!
For the sweet treats – cookies, cakes, etc., that I’ve listed are either recipes for, or just inspiration on how to decorate said treat. There are some craft, and homemade gift ideas, as well as some random pics that I guess at the time would inspire a night of love!
