Valentine’s Day Popcorn
Popcorn is such a classic snack to munch on while watching a movie, but why not take the snack-attack to the next level with a yummy, themed popcorn mix?
There are a variety of different types of popcorn mixes out there with the main ingredient being popcorn, of course, then other snack-type ingredients added
Some examples are:
- popcorn trail mix – adding dried fruits and nuts
- popcorn snack mix – adding other dried snacks like crackers or pretzels
- popcorn candy mix – adding different candies like M&M’s or gummies
- popcorn party mix – for parties, duh!
- themed popcorn mix – using a variety of themed snacks to suit the theme
Cupid’s Popcorn Mix
I’ve called this Valentine’s Day popcorn, Cupid’s Popcorn Mix, because, well, because it’s a cute name for a popcorn mix!
From my earlier definitions of mixes, I guess technically it is Valentine’s popcorn candy mix. But whatever you or I want to call it, it’s a delicious assortment of different flavored popcorn and candies and that’s the important thing!
There are three popcorn flavors (and colors!) in this mix – cherry, pink lemonade, and chocolate – as well as some standard salted popcorn.
Now don’t worry about having to find those flavors of popcorn – this recipe shows you how to make them!
You can buy ready-made popcorn or pop your own kernels using a popcorn machine, or good old-fashioned pot on the stovetop.
Ingredients used in this recipe
The full ingredients list and instructions are found in the printable recipe card at the end of this post, but here is a brief outline so you know what to expect from the recipe.
I highly recommend always reading a recipe all the way through before starting.
For my UK readers: When I go on vacation to the USA, I like to stock up on my favourite American food products and ingredients, so you’ll find them used in some of the recipes on The Purple Pumpkin Blog. However, we can buy a lot of American ingredients online these days, and in supermarkets (check the World Foods aisle!) which is awesome! (Although sometimes the price can be on the high side…) When I use American ingredients in recipes that I share on my blog, I always aim to suggest British alternatives or include Amazon affiliate links to where you can buy them online.
- Plain (salted) popcorn
- Butter
- Unsweetened Kool-Aid packets in the following flavors:
- Hot chocolate powder packet – around 1oz/28g
- Red, Pink & White M&M’s – might be called Cupid’s Mix or Valentine’s Mix

Cupid’s Popcorn Mix Recipe Tips
- Prepare three baking sheets with some wax paper or parchment paper/baking paper/greaseproof paper for the popcorn to dry on.
- The popcorn flavors are made in a pot on the stove using butter, sugar, water, and Kool-Aid or hot chocolate powder which is then poured over plain (salted) popcorn.
- You will need to work quickly to stir the flavoring over the popcorn – use a large bowl and a rubber spatula to mix everything through.
- The flavored popcorn needs to dry for 1 -2 hours or until it is no longer sticky. Allow time for this when making the popcorn mix. Drying time may depend on the humidity in your kitchen.
- Once dried, all you have to do is mix the together with all of the other ingredients and you’re ready to go!
- Put in a large bowl or popcorn box for sharing, or into smaller individual ones.
- Place into cello bags and tie off with some ribbon as a yummy homemade gift.
