Day 4: Back to Back! Our First Disney Cruise 2021! (UK Staycation)
Home » Everything Disney » Disney Cruise Line Trip Reports » Day 4: Back to Back! Our First Disney Cruise 2021! (UK Staycation) »A new dining rotation for us on our next 3-day Disney cruise, starting with Animator’s Palate.
I told you all about this restaurant on day 2, so won’t rehash that, but I do have some additional photos of the restaurant, and will then skip straight to the food and our drawings!
Animator’s Palate »
Bread Service…
- Garlic Foccaccia
- Plain and Wholewheat Dinner Rolls
- Garlic Dipping Sauce
Our usual head server, Paulo was off sick this evening, so our assistant server, Bernido, got promoted for the evening and we had someone new join the team. We wished Paulo well via Bernido, and hoped we would see Paulo again before the end of our cruise.
Service started with bread – which was a lot fresher than our previous cruise! Yay!
Appetizer…
Me: Chicken and Walnut Salad – Dried Cranberries, Red Onions, and a Cranberry Dressing
Steve: Smoked Salmon Tartar – with Dill, Capers, Onions, Pickles, and a Horseradish Cream
Animator’s Palate was a menu I really struggled with choosing something to eat. I just wasn’t over-enthusiastic about the choices available.
My understanding is, are you can order off-menu and from one of the other restaurants, but I have also heard that they prefer if you ask in advance (as they have to go to another kitchen). I didn’t want to put the already very busy and hard-working staff and decided to have one of the salads.
It sounded delicious, but sadly it was loaded with celery – my least favorite vegetable, I really can’t stand it, even the smell!
I picked around it as best I could, but Steve ended up eating the rest, along with his smoked salmon starter which he really enjoyed and said was nicer than the tuna tartar he had (I think) the previous night.
Entrée…
Me: Ginger-Teriyaki dusted Angus Beef Tenderloin – served with Wasabi Mashed Potatoes, Bok Choy, and a Tamarind-Barbecue Reduction
Steve: Black Bean Chipotle Cakes – served over Corn Kernels and Brown Rice topped with Tomato-Cilantro Salsa
Us: Sesame Halloumi Parcels – with Sweet Potato Tahini Mash and Roasted Cherry Tomatoes
The running theme for both mine and Steve’s dinner this evening was lacking in flavor.
Considering my steak was dusted with ginger, and served with wasabi mashed potatoes – both very strong flavors, I could barely tell it was there. That said the steak was perfectly good and it all tasted great (just not as flavorful as I would have expected).
Steve had the vegetarian option, which he was indifferent about, it didn’t taste of very much either.
We both enjoyed the halloumi parcels which we had tried on our previous dinner at Animator’s Palate.
Dessert…
Me: Warm Sticky Date Pudding – served with Butterscotch Sauce, Vanilla Ice Cream, and Phyllo Crunch
Steve: Chocolate Fudge Cheesecake – Creamy Vanilla Cheesecake with a Chocolate Fudge Base
Today had felt like a really long day, and we were so stuffed from dinner we asked if we could take our desserts to-go. Bernido was happy to oblige and just requested that we return the plates to the restaurant rather than to just leave for housekeeping to clear away. We were happy to do that and took our choices back to our stateroom.
I went for the sticky pudding again because it was so delicious last time and just the same on this occasion. Steve also enjoyed his cheesecake, but then again, it’s one of his favored desserts!
We stayed for the animation display of our artwork, and Bernido had everything prepared for us when it was finished.
Cocktails…
Me: Great Reef – Rum, Elderflower St. Germain, Watermelon Purée and fresh Lime Juice x2 ($18 + 18% Autogratuity $3.24 + Tip $1.76 = $23)
It was a couple of cocktails for me this evening, the flavors of the Great Reef were so good, I had to have another!
On returning to our stateroom we were greeted by a towel dinosaur and a couple of Dove chocolates. We ate our dessert, watched some telly, and then crashed out!
