7 Layer Dip Cups
The full ingredients list and instructions are found in the printable recipe card at the end of this post. I highly recommend reading the blog post all the way through so that you don’t miss any tips or substitution suggestions; to ensure that you have all the ingredients and equipment required, and to understand the steps and timings involved.
When throwing parties I love to serve individual cups of dips for guests to grab and go. This prevents people from double dipping, and it also makes socialising a lot easier as you can stand and hold a cup of dip and dunk in the chips as you chat.
These cups have 7 layers of dip, and it’s more of an assembly job than a recipe. With layers of refried beans, guacamole, sour cream, tomatoes, cheese, black olives, and green onions, these cups are ready to serve in around 10 minutes.
I’ve included a recipe for homemade guacamole, but if you’re really pressed for time, you can use store-bought guacamole. You could even make your own refried beans if you wanted to, but we opened up a can of ’em for the dip.
If you want to just have one big bowl of dip instead, just follow the recipe and layer up into a serving dish and you’re good to go!
Ingredients & Equipment Used In This Recipe
While most ingredients can be bought in grocery stores, for your convenience, any specialized or notable ingredients (and equipment) needed for this recipe have been listed below and linked to Amazon or other stores if available online.
It does not include staple ingredients such as oil, salt, and pepper, as you’re likely to have those in your kitchen already. The complete list of ingredients with measurements is found in the recipe card.
- Fresh Produce – Avocados, Garlic, Limes, Cherry Tomatoes, Green Onions (Spring Onions/Scallions)
- Dairy – Sour Cream, Mexican Cheese,
- Chili Powder – use mild or hot depending on your personal tastes and spicy heat preference!
- Ground Cumin
- Garlic Powder
- Refried Beans – you can buy them canned or even make your own with our recipe for Easy Refried Beans
- Black Olives
- Tortilla Chips – use your flavor of choice. Pictured are blue tortilla chips.
Recipes on The Purple Pumpkin Blog use both cup measurements and/or weighted measurements. American cups and kitchen food scales are handy pieces of equipment to have in your kitchen as it means you’ll be able to make all of the different recipes on my blog. I try to give American, imperial, and metric measurements in my recipes. You can mix cup measurements with weighted measurements, but never mix imperial (pounds, ounces, pints, etc.,) with metric (kilograms, grams, litres, etc.,).
