The pencil cup pumpkin craft is perfect for welcoming the fall season.
A set of mesh pencil and paper clip cups from the office section of the Dollar Store serves as the base for your cute pumpkins.
You’ll be surprised how some orange acrylic craft paint and ribbon can transform these everyday office supplies into adorable autumn home décor.
Or why not change things up by creating a variety of colors and sizes of pencil pot pumpkins. (Purple, maybe!).
While the finished craft renders the pencil pots unusable for their intended purpose, they would look grand sitting on your desk at your office, home study, or college dorm.
You could even tuck in a battery-operated tealight to add a little glow. The sky—or should I say, the pumpkin patch—is the limit!

- Wire Mesh Pencil and Paper Clip Cups
- Acrylic Craft Paints in the following colors:
- Bright Orange
- Burnt Orange
- Black Gingham Ribbon
- Hot Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
- Wooden Stems – You can buy these from craft stores or use some from your backyard.

Cheap Craft Supplies
This budget-friendly craft uses supplies you may already have, or can be purchased cheaply in a dollar store (or local equivalent).
If you’re in the USA, check out your local dollar stores like Dollar Tree. If you’re in the UK, the Poundshop, The Range, Wilko, and Baker Ross are great places to shop for cheap and inexpensive craft supplies. To the rest of the world reading this—we’re sorry we don’t know every cheap store out there, but please do hunt the ones out in your location for crafting bargains!
How Do I Make Pencil Cup Pumpkins?
The printable tutorial card with the full supplies list and instructions can be found at the end of this post.
Step 1 – Prepare Cups: Remove the tags from the wire mesh pencil and paper clip cups. Wash and dry them inside and out. Sand them lightly so that the paint adheres.
Step 2 – Paint Cups: Paint the cups inside and out. Paint one with dark orange and the other with bright orange. Set aside to dry and apply a second coat if required.
Step 3 – Attach Stems: Attach wooden stems to the top center of each wire cup pumpkin with a glue gun and glue sticks.
TIP! Don’t worry if the stems aren’t perfectly straight because that will give the pumpkin a bit of extra character.
Step 4 – Make Leaves: Download, print, and cut the leaf pattern. Trace onto felt with a marker. Cut out the leaves with scissors, cutting inside the traced lines for a clean, finished project.
Step 5 – Attach Embellishments: Measure and cut two 10″/25cm lengths of ribbon, tie them into bows, and trim the ends with scissors. Attach the bows and a few springs of mini silk flowers to the pumpkin stems with a glue gun and glue sticks. Display where desired.
