Ingredients Needed For Fried Tequila Cake Bites
- Fresh Produce – Limes (for serving)
- Dairy – Unsalted Butter, Sour Cream

The complete list of ingredients with measurements is on the recipe card at the end of this post. The Purple Pumpkin Blog uses both cups and weighted measurements in its recipes, making American cups and kitchen food scales valuable tools for trying all the recipes. We provide US customary, imperial, and metric measurements. Still, it’s important to note that while you can combine cup measurements with weighted measures, never mix US customary/imperial (pounds, ounces, pints, etc.) with metric (kilograms, grams, liters, etc.).

How Do I Make Fried Tequila Cake Bites?
The printable recipe card with the full ingredients list and instructions can be found at the end of this post.
Step 1 – Heat Pan: Place a sauté pan over medium-high heat and add the butter.
Step 2 – Dip Cake: Stir the tequila and juice of one lime in a bowl. Quickly and lightly dip cake slices into the mixture (you don’t want the cake to absorb too much alcohol).
Step 3 – Fry Cake: Place the dipped cake slices in the heated butter – do not overcrowd the pan; cook for about 1 minute on each side until golden.
Transfer the cooked cake slices to drain on some paper kitchen towels to cool slightly. Continue to dip and cook the cake in batches.
Step 4 – Make Cinnamon Sugar: Place the sugar and cinnamon in a medium bowl and stir to combine.
Step 5 – Coat Cake: Add the cooled tequila cake bites to the cinnamon sugar and lightly toss until fully coated.
Step 6 – Make Dipping Sauce: To make the dipping sauce, mix the sour cream, powdered sugar, lime zest, and juice in a bowl until combined.
Step 7 – Serve: Arrange the Tequila Cake Bites in a serving dish and garnish with lime wedges. Serve with lime dipping sauce, and enjoy!

Recipe Tips
- Please keep your tequila away from any open flame, especially when using a gas stovetop. Combining alcohol and flames can lead to dangerous situations.
- You can substitute tequila with vodka or rum if you prefer not to use tequila. Experiment with flavored liquors for added enjoyment!
- These bites are most delicious when served warm and freshly made.
- If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two days.
- Will all the alcohol cook out of the cake? Contrary to popular belief, not all of the alcohol will evaporate during the cooking process. While it’s often said that alcohol will completely cook out, studies have shown that to be false. Although some alcohol evaporates, more than 80% remains in these cake bites! Enjoy responsibly!
