I look forward to seeing how you celebrated VJ Day 75!

You may have visited my blog back in April and May for my free printable VE Day decorations and are now looking for decorations to commemorate VJ Day which is also celebrating 75 years since the Victory over Japan on April 15th.

I’ve been doing some updating and now have a set of free printable VJ Day decorations for you to download and print at home.

But first, a word about VJ Day…

Victory over Japan Day (also known as VJ Day) is the day on which Imperial Japan surrendered in World War II, in effect bringing the war to an end. The term has been applied to both of the days on which the initial announcement of Japan’s surrender was made – August 15, 1945, in Japan, and because of time zone differences, August 14, 1945 (when it was announced in the United States and the rest of the Americas and Eastern Pacific Islands) – as well as to September 2, 1945, when the surrender document was signed, officially ending World War II.

August 15 is the official VJ Day for the UK, while the official US commemoration is September 2. The name, VJ Day, had been selected by the Allies after they named VE Day for the victory in Europe.

Wikipedia

Much like the planned VE Day celebrations and commemorations had to be cancelled or altered due to the pandemic, VJ Day events are likely to be affected too.

However, there are lots of ways you can get involved including printing off some of my decorations to use at home.

Remember when lockdown was in complete force, and we all clapped and cheered for the NHS and Keyworkers – essentially the front line in the fight in the pandemic?

Let’s take that same energy as we did then, as we did for VE Day, and apply it to the brave men and women who continued to fight after Victory in Europe, for the freedom that we are able to enjoy today.

How To Make Popcorn Boxes

Print off as many as you need, onto thin card and cut out. Flip over to the blank side, and you can judge where to score some lines to make folding easier: along the bottom flap tabs, the side flap, and along each edge, from point to point.

Fold around, and use glue or tape to secure the sides first, then upend, to do the bottom flaps – I find tape easiest to secure these. If you using glue, you may want to add a paper clip to hold everything in place until the glue dries.

Fill with popcorn or other dry snacks (chips/crisps; tortilla chips etc). You can see an example of my popcorn boxes here.

How To Use Bottle/Napkin Wrappers

These wrappers have dual use! If you are serving food that requires cutlery, I think it’s nice to make a napkin bundles with knives/forks/spoons wrapped in a napkin, and secured with one of my napkin wrappers. You can see an example on my blog here. Similarly, you could use them to wrap around bottles.
