But first, a word about VE Day…
Victory in Europe Day, generally known as VE Day or V-E Day, is a day celebrating the formal acceptance by the Allies of World War II of Nazi Germany’s unconditional surrender of its armed forces on 8 May 1945.
Wikipedia
The first May Bank Holiday in 2020 has been moved from a Monday to a Friday so that we could celebrate this occasion starting on Friday 8th May, and over the weekend.
As we all know, times have changed and much of the world is having to stay home.
The variety of commemorative events that had been planned, including street parties (like those that were thrown to celebrate VE Day in 1945) have been cancelled.
I am hoping that all the events you have carefully planned can be moved to the weekend of 15th – 16th August when we will be able to celebrate VE Day and VJ Day, both momentous points in our history.

However, what got our nation through World War II was the strong British spirit, and even through the darkest of times it is there.
Yes, we have to Stay Home to Protect the NHS and Save Lives, but we can also get out into our gardens or balconies, we can hang the bunting from windows, we can cheer and celebrate – making sure we stay those 2 metres apart!
We’ve seen the videos online of communities keeping up their spirits while social distancing – singing, dancing, clapping.
Let’s do that for VE Day 75 and for the brave men and women who fought for the freedom that we are able to enjoy today. (And yes, I’m aware of the irony of that statement in the current climate.)

It seems silly of me to give instructions for this printable, but simple print off as many as you need, fold in half along the line and write in the name of the dish.
When entertaining, especially a buffet, I like to label up the food so guests know what is what, and I don’t have to keep explaining to them!

How To Make Popcorn Cones
Print as many as you require onto thin card or thick paper. Cut, then fold around into a cone. Secure with tape or glue. If using glue, hold together with a paper clip until the glue dries. You can see some made up cones here.

How To Make Popcorn Boxes
Print off as many as you need, onto thin card and cut out. Flip over to the blank side, and you can judge where to score some lines to make folding easier: along the bottom flap tabs, the side flap, and along each edge, from point to point.
Fold around, and use glue or tape to secure the sides first, then upend, to do the bottom flaps – I find tape easiest to secure these. If you using glue, you may want to add a paper clip to hold everything in place until the glue dries.
Fill with popcorn or other dry snacks (chips/crisps; tortilla chips etc). You can see an example of my popcorn boxes here.

These wrappers have dual use! If you are serving food that requires cutlery, I think it’s nice to make a napkin bundles with knives/forks/spoons wrapped in a napkin, and secured with one of my napkin wrappers. You can see an example on my blog here. Similarly, you could use them to wrap around bottles.

Hi Michelle
These printables are just fantastic. We are having a self distancing VE day street party here in Walthamstow, and also it is our neighbour’s 96th Birthday, so a double celebration. I have told my daughter about these too and so my grandchildren will be using them for their back garden VE Day celebrations. Such an amazing thing to do for everyone. Hope you and your family are keeping safe and well .. and Pumpkin too.

This is fab. I’ve just been asked if I could make some VE cupcakes for a care home, but due to the lack of time to order toppers I was a bit stuck. This is so helpful as I can print off what I need.
Thank you

Thank you so much for these. They are great. I am getting my son involved in cutting bits out ready for our “stay at home in your front garden party”. History homeschooling sorted.

That’s a great way to pass some time for him! I’m publishing a word search related to VE Day and WWII so look out for that too. Enjoy your party!
