How To Make Paper Chains
Paper chains are one of the cheapest and easiest party decorations you can make! All you need are scissors, a stapler or adhesive (roller glue tape, glue stick, or sticky tape), and our free printable templates.
- Print as many sheets of paper chain strips as you need (there are 15 per page). Cut each strip using scissors or a paper trimmer.
- Take one of the strips, staple it, or add a dab of glue. We like glue rollers for less mess and quick drying. Place them on one end and fold them around to form a circle. This is the first link/loop in your chain.
- Now, slide another strip of paper into that link, add a dab of glue on the end, and fold around to form a circle attached to the first loop.
- Continue linking the loops until you reach the desired chain length, then hang it across walls, mantles, or anywhere else you want to decorate!
As the world comes together to watch the games, you can join in the global festivity with your own homemade Olympic decor. Encourage your kids to learn about different sports and the countries participating in the Olympics as they craft these fun paper chains.

For some fun Olympic activities and craft inspiration, here are the DIY decorations from when the Olympics were held in my hometown of London in 2012.
- Giant Tissue Paper Rosettes—I made one for each color of the Olympic rings: blue, black, red, yellow, and green.
- Decoupage Cardboard Letters—Mine were for London 2012, but you can make them using red, white, and blue and Parisien motifs to make them for this year’s games.
- Olympic Rings Decoration—This is easy for kids to get involved with!

- Olympic Torch Cake Push-Ups—In 2012, cake push-ups were a thing. A fun snack idea, for sure!
