I made these giant tissue paper rosettes for my London 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony Party on 27th July. They are so easy to make, and I’m really pleased with the way they turned out! On the day of the party I added the LONDON 2012 decoupage letters that I made, don’t you think they look great? I do!

I have made these tissue paper rosettes several times before, but never this big! Whatever size you decide to make them, the method is exactly the same. You will need tissue paper in your chosen colours – I stayed with the colours of the Olympic Rings: blue, black, red, yellow and green – as well as some thread and scissors.

I used 5 full sheets of tissue paper, they were at least A3 in size, and the finished rosettes are about 45cm across.

Lay the sheets one on top of eachother, and then fold, concertina style, about 2cm in width. Keep folding until you run out of paper.

Tie a length of thread around the centre, pulling it tight, but being careful not to rip the delicate tissue paper. Leave a length so that you can hang them up when finished.

Using your scissors, cut a rounded edge so that they look like petals.

Carefully, open up each side of the fan to spread each piece out.

Then start to pull up each layer towards the centre to start forming the rosette, I do one layer on one half, then the other, then continue to work down the layers.

When finished, tweak the layers until you get the shape you desire. Now alls to do is make the other colours!

I kept each rosette in one colour to resemble the Olympic Rings which I then pinned to my side unit.

I also made further rosettes, slightly smaller, layering the different colours.

These make very simple, pretty and effective decorations! I hope you try them out :)
