Christmas Breakfast Charcuterie Board

The whole ingredients list and instructions are in the printable recipe card at the end of this post. I highly recommend reading the blog post all the way through so that you don’t miss any tips or substitution suggestions, to ensure that you have all the ingredients and equipment required and understand the steps and timings involved.

Now, I know that charcuterie boards are traditionally made with cured meats and cheeses, but over the past few years, this way of serving food (set out on a board for everyone to share) has exploded in popularity.

I’ve always loved making them, and never quite followed the rules, and I’m throwing all the rules out again with this Christmas breakfast charcuterie board. (Which you could also set up for brunch too!)

I know that Christmas morning can be hectic, with everyone excited to see what Santa has brought, to preparing the food for Christmas lunch/dinner, but take a moment in the madness to pause for a delicious breakfast.

This board is easy to put together, thanks to using store-bought baked goods, and you just need to cook some bacon and sausages to add to the spread.

It can be set up in next to no time and is a lovely way to spend some time on Christmas Day (or throughout the holidays) with your family and friends.

Breakfast Charcuterie Board For The Holidays!

Ingredients Needed For A Christmas Breakfast Charcuterie Board

The hardest aspect of creating any charcuterie board is going to be deciding what goes on it; the rest is fairly easy! I ADORE creating them for parties.

This charcuterie board “recipe” is really just a guide on how to set up a board of delicious breakfast foods to serve at your next Christmas breakfast or brunch.

The items listed below are used in the board featured in this post.

But if you can’t source a particular element, don’t like something, or want to switch to something else – go for it!

Baked Goods

Buy your baked goods from the store to save time, but of course, you can make your own from scratch.

Tip! Other baked breakfast items could include mini Danish pastries, croissants, pain au chocolat, scones, pancakes (see note about waffles above!), biscuits, English muffins, crumpets, or cupcakes.

Fruit

  • Strawberriescut some strawberries in half through the leaves and stem for a pretty presentation.
  • Blueberries, Blackberries, and Raspberriescheck for bruising and use the best berries for your charcuterie plate.
  • Oranges – halved, and cut into slices.
  • Grapefruit – halved, and cut into slices.

TIP! Ensure that you use fresh fruit rather than frozen which will end up being mushy on your board.

Meat Products

  • Bacon – use any kind of bacon you like – streaky, back, smoked, unsmoked, Canadian, etc.
  • Sausageuse sausage links, or patties, in any flavor you like.

TIP! If you are a plant-based eater, of course, switch out the meat to plant-based products.

Sauces

TIP! You could also use maple syrup, whipped cream, or fruit sauces.

Sweet Treats & Garnishes

TIP! Can’t find the exact toppings and garnishes we used? Don’t worry – use whatever products are available to you. That’s the beauty of any type of charcuterie board!

Equipment Needed For This Recipe

  • Large Rectangular Wooden Board – we used this shaped board, but you could use any shape you like – adjust the elements to fit as required. You could also use a ceramic or glass platter if you already have one, or, like they do on TikTok, lay out some parchment paper on the table or counter and place everything directly there!
  • Small Bowls – to serve the toppings in. You could also use a ramekin.
  • Sharp Knife
  • Chopping/Cutting Board – to cut and prepare the food.
  • Small Plates – for guests to eat from. This might be ceramic plates, or paper plates, which will depend on your event.
  • Charcuterie Utensils – tongs, spoons, etc. You will need them for guests to pick up foods from the charcuterie board, and utensils to eat with.

Recipes on The Purple Pumpkin Blog use cup measurements and/or weighted measurements. American cups and kitchen food scales are handy pieces of equipment to have in your kitchen as it means you’ll be able to make all of the different recipes on my blog. I try to give American, imperial, and metric measurements in my recipes. Please note, that you can mix cup measurements with weighted measures, but never mix imperial (pounds, ounces, pints, etc.,) with metric (kilograms, grams, liters, etc.,).

How To Set Up A Christmas Breakfast Board

How Do I Make A Christmas Breakfast Charcuterie Board?

Use our photos as a guide for the placement of all your breakfast items.

Step 1: Lay the waffles in a diagonal line across your board, overlapping them slightly. Place a bowl of caramel sauce and chocolate fudge sauce on either side.

Stack the mini muffins and cinnamon rolls at the corners and sides of the board.

Place a small bowl next to the bowl of chocolate sauce.

Arrange piles of strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries around the muffins and bowls at one end of the board. Pop in some peppermint sticks to break colors up.

Charcuterie Placement Tips

  • In photography and design, odd numbers work best, as does an ‘S’ shape. Place your items with this in mind to help please and lead the eyes around the board.
  • Start with placing bowls (for sauces, and smaller foods) on your board and build around them.
  • Place larger and medium-sized foods onto the board first, and consider placing them towards the edges for structure.
  • Arrange items in uniform patterns on the board.
  • Fill in all available space – abundance looks the best when it comes to charcuterie boards. (A minimal approach can also work, experiment with your own aesthetic!)
  • Group the same items together, but also spread them out on the board, for example, if your board feeds 16 people, group the items together in different areas.
  • Try to keep similar colors separate if possible, and break up pale-colored foods with bright ones, like fruits, for example.
  • Don’t forget the garnish for both the board and the surrounding area. For the holidays use cinnamon sticks or sugar-frosted fruit as decor on the charcuterie plate. Use linens, flowers, herbs, and other decorations to elevate the beauty of your charcuterie board.

What Items Can I Put On My Christmas Breakfast Charcuterie Board?

Breakfast (and brunch) is one of my favorite meals of the day – because there are just so many delicious foods you can enjoy.

Of course, we’ve given you the ingredients list for the breakfast board you see here, but there is an abundance of other items you can put on a breakfast charcuterie board including:

  • Baked Goods: Danish pastries, croissants, pain au chocolat, scones, pancakes, buttermilk biscuits, English muffins, crumpets, soda bread, bagels, bread rolls, sourdough bread, banana bread, cupcakes, or doughnuts.
  • Fruit: Most fruits will pair well with other items for breakfast. Why not use bananas, peaches, melon (cantaloupe, honeydew, Galia), or watermelon, as well as tropical fruits like pineapple, mango, papaya, and pomegranate. I’m going to include compote here which is another wonderful breakfast addition.
  • Meat & Fish: Of course, there are the classic sausage and bacon that we used, but consider other cooked meats like country ham, steak, or corned beef hash. Then of course you could go continental with cured meats and salamis. And then there is smoked salmon, smoked trout, and smoked mackerel. If you are extra fancy, there is always caviar too!
  • Eggs: Hard-boiled eggs work well on a breakfast board, but on the side, you could serve scrambled eggs, sunny side up/fried eggs, omelets, or egg dishes like eggs Benedict, tortilla, frittata, or quiche.
  • Cereals: From childhood classics to fancy, homemade granola, there is room on a board for them!
  • Dairy: Whipped cream for waffles and pancakes, yogurt (plain, natural, flavored, or Greek) for granola, and milk (including plant-based options) for cereal and coffee/tea.
  • Sauces and Condiments: Maple syrup, agave syrup, and golden syrup are all yummy choices for breakfast. Don’t forget butter (allow it to come to room temperature), as well as ketchup (and for Brits, the HP sauce!). If serving ham, honey-mustard sauce is a delight. For topping bread products, there are jams, jellies, and nut and seed spread like peanut butter, almond butter, and sunflower butter. And if you’ve never tried Biscoff spread, try it, it is amazing!
