Spicy Blackberry Margaritas
Spicy Blackberry Margaritas are a unique and flavorful twist on the classic cocktail and are a must-try if you love tequila-based drinks!
Made with tequila, Crème de Mûre blackberry liqueur, Grand Marnier, and spicy margarita mix, these cocktails pack a punch of heat and sweetness in every sip.
The purple-pink hue of the drink is as beautiful as it is delicious and is perfectly accented by the Tajin seasoning on the rim of the glass.
To top it off, each drink is garnished with fresh blackberry, slices of jalapeño, and a wedge of lime, adding a burst of color and texture.
These spicy margaritas and our other Unique Margarita Recipes are perfect for any occasion, from Cinco de Mayo to casual gatherings with friends.
And, of course, they pair well with Mexican and Tex-Mex food.
With their unique blend of flavors and vibrant presentation, Spicy Blackberry Margaritas are sure to impress and delight all who try them!
Ingredients For Spicy Blackberry Margaritas
For your convenience, I’ve linked any specialized ingredients needed for this recipe to Amazon below.
- Tequila – you can use silver or gold tequila in this cocktail.
- Crème de Mûre – a blackberry liqueur.
- Grand Marnier – a French liqueur made with cognac, bitter orange, and sugar.
- Spicy Margarita Mix – a spicy, sweet, and sour cocktail mix. If you can’t source the spicy kind, regular margarita mix must do!
- Blackberry Syrup
- Tajin Seasoning – a chili, lime, and sea salt mixture which we used to rim the glass in this cocktail. It is often sprinkled on fresh fruits and vegetables to add a zingy kick.
- Simple Syrup – you can buy this ready-made, but it is very easy to make yourself. To make simple syrup, place equal measures of sugar and water in a pan and stir over medium heat. By the time it starts to simmer, the sugar is dissolved, and that’s it!
- Garnish – Fresh Blackberries, Limes, Jalapeños
This cocktail is shaken, but don’t worry if you don’t have a cocktail shaker, you could just use a container with a tight-fitting lid – like a mason jar or even the cup on a blender or smoothie maker.

How Do You Salt the Rim of a Margarita Glass?
Traditionally, margaritas are served in the eponymous margarita glass, a stepped-diameter variant of a champagne coupe. The rim of the glass is often dipped in salt, sometimes sugar, and sometimes something else, like Tajin seasoning.
You don’t have to use margarita-shaped glasses for this cocktail—use any glass. The method for adding salt to the rim of a glass is exactly the same!
- Pour some salt (kosher salt/sea salt flakes work well) onto a small plate or saucer.
- You could even try different flavored salts.
- Cut a notch or slit into the flesh of a lime wedge, then run it around the rim of the glass to add juice to the inside and outside edges.
- Dip the glass rim into the salt and give it a twist or two (like you’re cutting cookies from pastry).
- And you’re done!
You can buy cocktail-rimming dishes online (there is a gadget for everything!), but a small plate or saucer will work fine.

Spicy Blackberry Margaritas Variations
I like to provide variations of the cocktails shared on The Purple Pumpkin Blog, such as turning the cocktail into an alcohol-free mocktail so that non-drinkers can enjoy the drink too!
Virgin Spicy Blackberry Margarita Mocktail (Non-Alcoholic)
So that non-drinkers can enjoy this drink we simply remove the alcohol and replace it!
In a cocktail shaker with ice, shake together:
- 2 oz Blackberry Syrup
- 1 oz Orange Syrup
- 3 oz Spicy Margarita Mix
And pour into Tajin-rimmed glasses and garnish as in the recipe card.
I haven’t made the mocktail version, so I recommend adding the syrups to your taste as they may add a sweetness that you may not necessarily get from alcoholic liqueurs.
Spicy Blackberry Margarita Mocktail (Non-Alcoholic Spirits)
For adults who would still like to enjoy the taste of alcohol in their mocktail, you could try non-alcoholic alternatives.
In the UK, try Lyre’s, which is also available on Amazon in the UK and Amazon.com.
Other brands include Strykk (UK), and Ritual (US & Canada). Non-alcoholic spirits are a growing trend, so be on the lookout in your local stores and online.
- Instead of Tequila, use Lyre’s Agave Blanco Spirit
- Instead of Grand Marnier, use Lyre’s Orange Sec
- Instead of Crème de Mûre, use Blackberry Syrup
Use the non-alcoholic alternatives instead of the alcoholic ones in the recipe card.
Frozen Spicy Blackberry Margaritas
Want to turn this cocktail into a frozen slushie? Here’s how!
Put all the ingredients in a blender with a generous amount of ice – then blend till smooth.
Serve with a straw, and watch out for brain freeze!
You could do the same with the mocktail version too.
Big Batch Spicy Blackberry Margaritas
Want to make a big batch of this spicy cocktail for a party or gathering? It’s so easy!
As long as you use the same measuring container (glass, cup, jug, etc.,) for the “1 part”, the ratios will be correct and you can make as much as you need to.
To make a big batch of spicy margaritas, mix together:
- 2 parts Tequila
- 2 parts Crème de Mûre
- 1 part Grand Marnier
- 6 parts Spicy Margarita Mix
- ¼ part Blackberry Syrup
Serve the large batch cocktail in drinks dispensers, or pitchers, or go retro and serve from a punch bowl! Use whichever container you have, or suits the event you are hosting.
Make sure to add plenty of ice to your serving container of choice to keep the cocktail chilled.
You could also skewer jalapeño slices, blackberries, and lime slices onto cocktail picks for guests to garnish their drinks.
Additionally, you could pre-rim glasses with Tajin, or provide a glass-rimming kit for a DIY option.
When setting up your bar or cocktail serving area, you could include:
- Ice Bucket (filled with ice!)
- Margarita Glasses
- Cocktail Napkins
- Cocktail Stirrers
- Cocktail Sticks
- Cocktail Party Decorations
This cocktail recipe is intended for adults of the legal drinking age in your country of residence.
Please drink responsibly. Do not drink and drive.
