Recipes on The Purple Pumpkin Blog use cup measurements and/or weighted measurements. American cups and kitchen food scales are handy pieces of equipment to have in your kitchen as it means you’ll be able to make all of the different recipes on my blog. I try to give American US customary, imperial, and metric measurements in my recipes. Please note, that you can mix cup measurements with weighted measures, but never mix US customary/imperial (pounds, ounces, pints, etc.,) with metric (kilograms, grams, liters, etc.,).

How Do I Make Egg Roll In A Bowl?
The printable recipe card has the full ingredients list and instructions and can be found at the end of this post.
Step 1 – Cook Sausage: Heat a wok (or large pan) over medium-high heat. Cook the sausage for 5-6 minutes, breaking the meat into small pieces.
Once browned and the sausage is no longer pink, remove from the heat and carefully drain excess grease from the pan.
Safety Tip: Wipe off any excess fat that drips down the side of the pan before returning to the burner.

Step 2 – Deglaze Pan: Return the pan to the heat. Deglaze the pan with water, scraping up the brown bits from the bottom of the pan with a spatula.
Step 3 – Add Vegetables: Reduce the heat to medium and add the shredded cabbage, carrots, garlic powder, sesame oil, ginger, and green onions. Season and cook for 4-5 minutes, stirring frequently, until the cabbage wilts and the carrot softens.

Step 3 – Finish Dish: Add the rice vinegar and soy sauce, stir to combine, and cook for 1-2 minutes or until heated through.

Step 4 – Serve: Remove from the heat and transfer to a serving platter or bowl. Sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds, if using, and serve immediately. Enjoy!

Recipe Tips
- Chinese cuisine is often cooked quickly, and as such, it’s best to have all the ingredients prepared and ready to add to the pan.
- When draining grease from the pan after browning the sausage, drain into a small bowl and allow it to set before discarding it in the garbage can.
- Do not pour the grease down the sink, as it may block the drainpipe when it cools down.
- You could also make this recipe with ground turkey, beef, or plant-based ground meat.
Storing Leftovers & Freezing
- Storing Leftovers: Cool, transfer to an airtight container, and store in the fridge for up to 3 days.
- Freezing Instructions:
- Cool and transfer to an airtight, freezer-safe container and place in the freezer.
- Label with the name of the dish, thawing/reheating instructions, and the date to keep track of your food storage.
- Freeze for up to 3 months.
- Place it in the fridge to thaw overnight (or at least 12 hours).
- Reheat in the microwave or in a wok over medium-low until piping hot throughout.
- You may wish to add some extra soy sauce when cooking for added flavor that may have been lost during freezing.
- With all leftovers, make sure the food looks and smells okay before consuming.
- Consult the Food Standards Agency in your country for the most up-to-date advice on storing and freezing foods: Food Standards Agency (UK) | Food Safety (USA).
