Grinch Party Decorations

If you’re already decorated for Christmas, then you are halfway there with setting the scene for your own Grinch party! Mr. Grinch might not like Christmas, but the citizens of Whoville definitely do!

Turn your tree into a Grinch Christmas Tree by adding several Green Feather Boas (you could also use green tinsel) and placing a Santa Hat on the top. Don’t forget a large heart-shaped ornament!

If you’re feeling creative, you could use a Cricut (or other cutting machine) to cut a Grinch Face from black vinyl and attach it to green ornaments/baubles for DIY Grinch ornaments. If you’re not feeling creative, simply add bright green or red ornaments to your tree.

Another easy craft is a Grinch wreath—take a green feather boa, wrap it around a wreath form, and secure it in place with hot glue.

Attach a red Santa hat to the top of the wreath and a large glitter heart cutout in the center, and you’re done! Here is a similar wreath made using tulle. Hang the wreath on your front door as a fun way to welcome guests to the party.

There is also the very easy option of buying ready-made Grinch Christmas Decorations or green and red streamers and balloons and hanging them everywhere!

Grinch Movie Quotes

A really simple way to decorate is with iconic quotes from the Grinch himself and other characters from the story, like Cindy Lou Who and the Narrator.

  • “Hate, hate, hate. Double hate. Loathe entirely.” — The Grinch.
  • “I am the Grinch that stole Christmas… and I’m sorry.” — The Grinch.
  • “Santa, don’t forget the Grinch. I know he’s mean and hairy and smelly, and his hands are cold and clammy, but I think he’s kinda… sweet.” — Cindy Lou Who.
  • “You’re A Mean One, Mr. Grinch!” — From the Classic Song.
  • “Maybe Christmas, He Thought … Doesn’t Come From A Store. Maybe Christmas, Perhaps … Means A Little Bit More!” — The Narrator.
  • “And what happened then? Well, in Whoville, they say that the Grinch’s small heart grew three sizes that day.” — Dr Suess.
  • “I don’t need anything more for Christmas than this right here. My family.” — Lou Lou Who.
  • “No one should be alone on Christmas.” — Cindy Lou Who
  • “It came without ribbons, it came without tags. It came without packages, boxes, or bags.” — The Grinch
  • “And they’ll feast, feast, feast, feast. They’ll eat their Who-Pudding and rare Who-Roast Beast. But that’s something I just cannot stand in the least. Oh, no. I’M SPEAKING IN RHYME!” — The Grinch

Grinch Activities

If your party guests include children, setting up a Grinch activity corner is a great idea. If they’re anything like ours, they get bored and want something else to do!

Depending on the activity you set up, remember to include additional tools needed, like markers, scissors, and glue.

Grinch Crafts

If your party is a small affair with select guests, having a craft or two to make is a great way to bond and also make great party favors to go home with.

Grinch Theme Food Ideas

It’s time to think about the food and drink you’re going to serve at your party!

There are always factors on what you serve at a party: are you only serving appetizers, or throwing a dinner party, or maybe you’re setting up a buffet. Is that buffet finger foods only, or will you need cutlery/silverware?

The most obvious dish to serve is ROAST BEAST. So, for a dinner party, make Roast Beef Tenderloin with Mashed Potatoes (which serves as Who-Hash!).

Serve “mini roast beasts” for a buffet, such as cocktail weiners/sausages, Cheese-Stuffed Mini Meatballs, Chicken Wings, or mini Roast Beef Baguettes.

Serve up Grinch Pizza with pesto, mozzarella, and red bell peppers cut into heart shapes. Or make Cindy Lou Who’s Sandwiches with green fillings like cucumber (with cream cheese) or avocado (with bacon, lettuce, and tomato).

For some healthy Grinch snacks, set up a crudité platter with green vegetables like raw broccoli, cucumber, sugar snap peas, asparagus, green bell peppers, and celery. Then, in the center of the plate, create a heart shape using red bell pepper to outline, and fill it with baby tomatoes.

Additionally, thread green fruit (grapes, kiwi, and melon) onto a skewer with a single strawberry heart!

Chips and dip are a staple party food, so Grinch it up! Grab some Green Tortilla Chips (typically avocado, kale, or spinach) and scatter them around a Heart-shaped Bowl filled with Tomato Salsa.

And if you can’t find green tortilla chips, make a bowl of Grinch Guacamole with regular chips and veggies.

Festive Holiday Treats – Grinch Style!

Sweet treats are where you can really go all out with this fun theme!

Try our White Chocolate Flavored Green Grinch Fudge Recipe, or make a batch of Grinch Cupcakes.

Our Reindeer Chow would actually work really well for a Grinch party, as would our Witch Finger Pretzel Rods—turn them into the Grinch’s fingers!

In fact, any treat (cookies, wafers, strawberries) dipped in green candy melts and decorated with red heart sprinkles would be quick and easy to do.

And if that isn’t enough, you can load your dessert table up with any of the following:

Serve a tray of Trop Rockin’s Grinch Oreo Balls, which will totally steal your heart!

Princess Pinky Girl’s Grinch Cake has a surprise hidden inside! And the Grinch Cookies from Dinner at the Zoo are green, soft, chewy, and delicious.

Or how about a batch of Grinch Brownies? The Monday Box has an easy recipe and also shows how to turn chocolate and vanilla cookie sticks into Decorated Grinch Cookies. Serve with a glass of green milk (regular milk with a drop of food coloring!).

Grinch Rice Krispie Treats from How To Make Rice Crispy Treats are super easy to make, and so is Recipes From A Pantry’s Grinch Popcorn.

Grinch Cookie Bars from Fun Cookie Recipes are topped with green frosting and a single red heart on each bar.

Homemade Hooplah turns the Grinch into a Grinch Lush Dessert, which is an easy Christmas cheesecake with red and green layers.

Why not make some Grinch ice cream sandwiches using Cooking with Calee’s Grinch No Churn Ice Cream and Movie Nights At Home’s Easy Grinch Cookies Recipe?

Or you could dunk Homemade Hooplah’s Grinch Heart Cookies into Kelly’s Thoughts on Thing’s Grinch Dunkaroo Dip.

Grinch Drinks

To pair with all that party food, you’re going to want to serve some drinks! Whether that’s cocktails, mocktails, or something else, we’ve got you covered:

We have several cocktails with a green color on The Purple Pumpkin Blog, and all would suit a Grinch Christmas party—just change the names to suit the Grinch theme!

Easy Party Cocktails makes Easy Grinch Jello Shots with vodka and lime jello.

And Trop Rockin’s Grinch Cocktail is loaded with Midori liqueur, coconut rum, vodka, pineapple juice, and lemon-lime soda.

The Grinch Cocktail recipe by Olive Tavern is a mix of vodka, blue curaçao, sour apple schnapps, and orange juice, finished off with a strawberry heart!

For non-alcoholic options, we have a Bright Green Grinch Mocktail for Kids, which is made with ginger ale and Powerade. And Dinner at the Zoo has a fun Grinch Punch that everyone will love!

A mug of Grinch Hot Chocolate from The Parent Spot is perfect to sip on with a Grinch cookie or two. As is a glass of Green Grinch Freakshake from Hey, Mom! What’s Cooking?

Grinch Party Games

What’s a party without a game or two? The type of game(s) you play will depend on your guests and the vibe you’re going for!

Who Stole Christmas Scavenger Hunt: Hide various Grinch-related items around the party area, like ornaments, plush Grinch toys, or cutouts of the Grinch’s stolen Christmas items. Guests team up to find all the items on their list. The first team to find everything wins.

Grinch-Themed Charades: Prepare a list of phrases, characters, and scenes from the Grinch story. Players take turns acting out these prompts without speaking while their team guesses. This game is great for all ages and can lead to a lot of laughter and fun.

Grinch Grab Christmas Punch Game – Find the tutorial on how to set up this fun game on Play, Party, Plan.

Wrap The Grinch – Get into teams of 2-4, and use green wrapping paper and tape to wrap one of your team from head to toe! Have a timer set, and the best-wrapped Grinch team wins!

Grinch Left-Right Gift Exchange Game – We have a themed version on its way, but you’ll find our Left Right Christmas Game printable here.

Grinch-Libs – There was a Grinch Mad Libs book, but that is now sadly out of print. However, it is a jumping point to set up your own!

Pass the Parcel (Grinch Style): Wrap a Grinch-themed gift in multiple layers of wrapping paper with a candy and/or dare between each layer.

Guests sit in a circle and pass the present while Grinch music plays. When the music stops, the person holding the gift removes a layer of wrapping and can take the candy and do the dare or task (if you’ve added them).

The game continues until the last layer of wrapping is removed, and the person holding the present at that time wins it.
