Disney Christmas Buttercream Frosting Board
So, we’ve shared Charcuterie Boards, Seafood Boards, Margarita Boards, and French Fry Boards, and now it’s time to satisfy those with a sweet tooth with a buttercream frosting board!
Think of it as the sweet cousin of the Butter Board trend—the board is filled with creamy buttercream frosting and served surrounded by a selection of sweet treats and dippers (like Sugar Cookies and candy canes).
But the frosting isn’t just dumped unceremoniously on the tray; it is shaped into Mickey Mouse’s head and is perfect for any Disney fan!
A Disney Christmas Buttercream Frosting Board is perfect for holiday parties—whether you’re hosting a grand soiree or a small family gathering—it’s not just a dessert; it’s a conversation starter and a festive showstopper.
One of the best parts about this recipe is its versatility. You can change the flavor of the frosting, for example, using cocoa powder to make it chocolate-flavored or using a different frosting color to match your theme.
Our ingredients list for the dippers is easily customizable to your favorite sweet treats, whether that is Oreos, rich chocolate cupcakes, crispy rice treats, shortbread cookies, or sugar cones, making each bite a personalized delight!

The ingredients and tools for this recipe are conveniently linked to online retailers such as Amazon, Amazon Fresh, Instacart, and Walmart.
Step 1 – Gather The Ingredients
There are two aspects to setting up your own frosting board—the American buttercream frosting and the dippers. For the frosting, you will need:
- Chilled & Dairy – Unsalted Butter, Heavy Cream (Double Cream)
- Powdered Sugar – Also known as Icing Sugar or Confectioners’ Sugar.
- Pure Vanilla Extract – Always buy good vanilla; it makes a flavor difference.
- Brown Food Coloring Gel
Additionally, you will need a Red Ready-Made Frosting Tube/Pouch (for Mickey’s rosy cheeks) and a Chocolate Ready-Made Frosting Tube/Pouch (for Mickey’s features).
For a decorative touch, Christmas Sprinkles are strewn over the icing—use any kind of sprinkles that you like—such as jimmies, nonpareils, pearls, stars, or a mixture.
We used a selection of dippers listed below on our Disney Christmas buttercream frosting board. Don’t feel you have to use all of these exact items.
If you can’t source a particular snack, don’t like something, or want to switch to something else—go for it!
- Christmas Cookies – If you’ve made our Lofthouse Cookies, you can use some on this board.
- Vanilla Wafers
- Holiday Oreos – Turn them into cute Gingerbread Men Pops!
- Chocolate Chip Cookies
- Oatmeal Cookies
- Rice Krispies Treats
- Graham Crackers
- Gingerbread Men Cookies – our Snowman Mickey Mouse Gingerbread Cookies would be perfect!
- Jordan Almonds
- Holiday M&Ms
- Candy Canes
Dip or drizzle ready-made treats or your favorite cookies with melted candy melts and holiday sprinkles in seasonal colors for a festive twist.

Step 2 – Kitchen Tools and Utensils
- Electric Mixer – Either a handheld or standing mixer.
- Large Piping Bag – You will need 2 piping bags, one for brown frosting and the other for white frosting.
- Small Angled/Offset Spatula – For spreading the frosting into shape.
- Mixing Bowl
- Rubber/Silicone Spatula – For scraping down the bowl.
- Rimmed Cookie Sheet – We used a 9″ x 13″ metal baking tray rather than a wooden board. If you only have a wooden board, line it with a piece of parchment paper.
For Serving:
- Christmas-themed Paper Ice Cream Cups or Small Plates– an optional extra for guests to fill with snacks.
- If it’s a family gathering, grabbing snacks with your hands is likely to be fine, but if serving a wider range of guests, it’s best to have some serving spoons and tongs.
Step 3 – Make Buttercream Frosting
To make the frosting, use an electric stand or hand mixer and beat room temperature softened butter on high speed for 2-3 minutes until pale and fluffy.
On a low speed to start, add powdered sugar, half a cup at a time, beating well after each addition, increasing the speed as you incorporate it. Then add heavy cream, one tablespoon at a time, and vanilla extract. You want the frosting to be stiff but spreadable.
TIP! If the frosting is too thin, add additional powdered sugar. If the frosting is too stiff, add additional heavy cream.
Scoop ¾ cup of the white frosting into a large piping bag and set it aside.
Step 4 – Color the Frosting
Add a few drops of chocolate brown food coloring to the remaining frosting to create a light brown shade. Scoop the brown frosting into a second large piping bag and set it aside.
TIP! Remember that you can always add more coloring, but not take it away! Add a little at a time to reach the desired shade.
Step 5 – Creating Mickey Mouse Frosting Head
Before piping Mickey’s head onto a metal 9″ x 13″ rimmed baking sheet, sketch the outline onto the tray with an edible food marker pen.
TIP! You can draw Mickey freehand or use our printable Mickey Head Outline to trace around. Adjust the size of Mickey according to the size of your tray.
Pipe the outline using the bag of brown frosting (or pipe blobs if you’re not confident at piping), then fill in the outline with the remaining frosting. Use an offset spatula to spread the frosting evenly into a smooth layer.
Step 6 – Pipe “Icing Drips”
Use the bag of white frosting to pipe the outline of some icing drips over the top of the Mickey ears. Fill in with the remaining frosting and smooth out with a spatula as before. Sprinkle some Christmas sprinkles on top of the drips.
Step 7 – Pipe Details
Use the premade chocolate frosting to pipe Mickey’s eyes, nose, and mouth. Then, use the premade red frosting to pipe rosy cheeks on the edges of his mouth.
TIP! You can place the tray in the refrigerator until ready to serve—cover carefully with plastic wrap and remove the tray from the fridge for about 30-60 minutes before adding the treats and serving.
TIP! Store any leftover frosting in an airtight container in the fridge for up to one week.
Step 8 – Add Christmas Sweet Dippers
You can now add your selection of sweet dippers to the tray—arrange them in sections around Mickey’s head, filling in all available space. Serve and enjoy!
