About The Paralympics
On July 29, 1948, during the Opening Ceremony of the London Olympics, Dr. Guttmann launched the Stoke Mandeville Games for wheelchair athletes, marking the start of what would become the Paralympic Games.
The first official Paralympics, with 400 athletes, took place in Rome in 1960. Following an agreement between the IPC and the IOC, they have occurred every four years alongside the Olympics, starting with the Seoul 1988 Summer Games and the Albertville 1992 Winter Games.
The next Summer Paralympic Games will take place in LA, California, USA, in 2028.
Perfect Pairings: Ideas for Label Use
Whether serving savory snacks or sweet treats, these labels are a great addition. Print them onto good-quality white paper, cut them, and fold them in half. Write in the space provided and place next to the food.
Here are some fun ways you can use them:
- Country-Themed Dishes: Label dishes with the country that inspired them. For example, Sushi from Japan, Dumplings from China, or Caprese from Italy. The labels can help guests enjoy a culinary tour of the world as they watch the games.
- Paralympic Event Snacks: Label the food to correspond to specific Paralympic events. Give them entertaining names like “Sprint Spicy Chicken Wings” for track events and “Dive-In Dip” for swimming events. This adds a fun and engaging twist to the party snacks.
- Paralympian Favorites: Research and serve some favorite foods of Famous Paralympians, using the labels to note the athlete and their sports. This can spark conversations among guests about the athletes and what they eat.
- Just Desserts: Label your Paralympic-themed desserts like torch-shaped sugar cookies or gold medal cupcakes.
- Healthy vs. Indulgent: Set up two buffet tables labeled “Athlete’s Fuel” for healthy options like Salads, fruit cups, and protein snacks and “Cheat Day Treats” for more indulgent options like chips, Cupcakes, and candy bars.
- Dietary Information: Help guests by noting allergen info or dietary categories like Gluten-free, Vegan, etc.
- Interactive Stations: Use the labels at DIY food and drink stations, like Build Your Own Tacos or a Margarita Station. Guests can have fun building their own meals and cocktails.
