I Spy Chinese New Year

We have been sharing Chinese New Year Printables since the Year of the Monkey in 2016, and these printables are updated annually to reflect that year’s zodiac animal.

For the Year of the Dragon, we’ve introduced a new printable to the collection—I Spy Chinese New Year!

10 February 2024 is the start of the Chinese New Year and the Year of the Dragon!

Your Chinese zodiac is Dragon if you were born in one of these years: 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 200, 2012, and 2024.

It also happens that the Year of the Dragon was one of the first big things we celebrated on The Purple Pumpkin Blog back in 2012 with a Chinese Banquet!

How To Play I Spy Chinese New Year

The Chinese New Year picture search worksheet is split into two sections – the hidden object section has a jumble of different things associated with Chinese New Year to look through and find.

The answer section has a picture of the objects to find and count in the jumbled section, with a box next to it to record how many there are.

We understand that fun knows no age, which is why we offer two levels of difficulty in our I Spy games:

  • Easy I Spy: Perfect for younger kids, featuring 6 different themed objects to find.
  • Hard I Spy: Offers more complexity and 18 symbols to search through, providing a fun challenge for older kids or adults.
  • The answers are on a separate sheet.

You could play the game the other way around – use the answer sheet to look for the number of each object in the jumbled picture section and cross it off or draw a circle around it. There are no hard and fast rules!

These free I Spy printables are fantastic for various settings:

  • Educational Use: Teach students about the Chinese New Year in a fun, interactive way.
  • Family Gatherings: Bring families together with a fun and culturally enriching activity.
  • Community Events: Add a touch of fun to your Chinese New Year celebrations.
