Ingredients used in this recipe
The full ingredients list and instructions are found in the printable recipe card at the end of this post, but here is a brief outline so you know what to expect from the recipe.
I highly recommend always reading a recipe all the way through before starting.
Alongside some regular baking ingredients like butter, powdered sugar, etc., you will need some more specialized ingredients which I’ve linked below to Amazon for your convenience.
- Betty Crocker French Vanilla Cake Mix – or your favorite brand of cake mix, plus the ingredients to make the cakes which are usually eggs, oil, and water.
- Vanilla Extract
- Heavy Whipping Cream – double cream in the UK, to make the frosting, or you could buy
- Canned Vanilla Frosting – if you don’t want to make your own
Equipment used in this recipe
You are likely to have most standard cooking tools in your kitchen but I’ve added some Amazon links for your convenience should you need something more specific for this recipe.
- Wilton Pink Petal Cupcake Liners – optional, use any cupcake liners you like, these are the ones used in the photos!
- Easter Bunny Ears Decorations – there are lots of different designs and styles on Amazon, but these are the ones used in the photos. If you can’t source any I’ve supplied a free printable in the Recipe Tips section that you can use!
- Wilton Bunny Feet Icing Decorations – if you can’t source these you could actually make them using fondant/sugarpaste – more in the Recipe Tips section!
- Ice Cream Scoop – this helps to scoop cupcake batter evenly. Get one with a trigger mechanism.
- Large Piping Bag
- Wilton Open Star Tip 1M
Easter Bunny Cupcake Recipe Tips
- French vanilla cake is also a vanilla cake, but with a more distinct flavor. If you can’t find a French vanilla cake mix, a box of the regular vanilla will be fine to use.
- Make the cupcakes according to the package instructions.
- Use an ice cream scoop to divide the cake batter between the cupcake liners. This will help you get evenly sized cupcakes.
- This recipe uses a homemade buttercream frosting made with butter, powdered sugar (icing sugar), vanilla extract, and heavy whipping cream (double cream).
- If you can’t source all the ingredients but have (or can buy) a can of ready-made frosting, then please feel free to use that!
- The cupcake decorations are ready-made and can be bought online or in craft stores. However, if you can’t source them I have alternatives – see below!

Making Bunny Feet from Fondant
If you’ve not worked with fondant (sugarpaste) before, don’t panic, I’ve got lots of handy tip in my Unicorn Reindeer Cupcakes post that you can check out first.
You will need white fondant and pink fondant to make bunny feet if you can’t buy them ready-made.
Roll out small balls of white fondant and flatten to make a paw shape, then roll out 1 small pink ball of fondant and 3 even small pink fondant balls per paw and flatten slightly.
Use a dab of water to stick the pink paw prints in place – using the photos in this post as a guide – and leave to dry for a few hours before using.
Or you could print off the bunny feet toppers below and use those instead!
