Halloween 2014

To round off my Halloween series, Crafty October 2014 I’m sharing photos from our Halloween Party that we had at the weekend. It wasn’t so much a party, more of a get together with my sisters.  Shock and horror, I just wasn’t in the right frame of mind for a huge shindig this year, I couldn’t cope with the pressure that it can bring me to host a party, and having suffered quite badly from depression for the past month, I needed to just let myself off.

I’ll start off with my decorations – I bought some new ones out in Orlando this year, and only decorated around our fireplace. It’s very unlike me to not decorate completely, but as above.  I crammed in as many decorations as I could though – spot the purple pumpkins?!

There is a distinct Mickey Mouse theme to my Halloween decorations this year…

…and I added to my collection of Halloween Mickey Ears ornaments.

I forgot to take a photograph of one of them, which has really annoyed me! They’re all safely packed away for next year now…although, you can just see it hanging from the tree, it’s the witch’s hat.

Speaking of trees, I bought these two black ones for Halloween this year and added some lights to the branches. I thought they looked awesome! I’m so glad to finally have a Halloween tree (well, two of them!)

And finally, I bought a set of figurines from The Nightmare Before Christmas – but do I use these for Christmas too? Oh the dilemma! Also new this year was a Mickey Ears 3D light thingy – for want of a better description! It was my holiday treat to myself as it wasn’t cheap!

You can’t have a party without food, and I made full use of my slow cookers to make a pumpkin and apple soup in one, and a beef, bean and pumpkin chilli con carne in the other. It meant I put it all on to cook in the morning and could just forget about it all day long!

I also made several dips to go with tortilla chips that were also there for eating with the chilli (I couldn’t be bothered to cook rice!) I made a pumpkin hummus, guacamole, salsa fresca and a baked spinach and artichoke dip. All very yummy, and all devoured by my lot!

And finally, as well as a huge cauldron of sweets, left over from the trick or treaters who didn’t come to our door this year, I also made some mini pumpkin pies, some pumpkin and chocolate orange cupcakes and jelly worms.

We didn’t really do much of the dress up thing this year either – Sephy had a cute little witches outfit on, one sister had a pumpkin t-shirt on and the other, well, owls are Halloween-y aren’t they? I did my make-up sans white face and false lashes, and since I bought several Halloween and Disney Villain Mickey Ears back from Walt Disney World, we all wore them throughout!

I definitely shouldn’t miss showing you my pumpkin carvings for this year which were the Oogie Boogie (from The Nightmare Before Christmas), the Headless Horseman and Sweeney Todd. I think they turned out pretty awesome!

As the night drew in, we lit a fire in the garden, made some s’mores and made shapes with sparklers. You can just see the Halloween t-shirt I made for hubs as well!

So that’s how we spent our Halloween at the weekend – it wasn’t the usual huge party I throw, but we had a fun time all the same!

Till next year….Happy Halloween!
