Cocktail Ingredients
The ingredients and tools for this recipe are conveniently linked to online retailers such as Amazon, Amazon Fresh, Instacart, and Walmart. The quantities are in the recipe card at the bottom of this post.
- Smirnoff Vodka—A neutral spirit for cocktails. We used Smirnoff, but you can use your preferred brand.
- Captain Morgan Spiced Rum—Infuses warm, aromatic spices into the mix.
- Blue Curaçao—An orange-flavored liqueur that has been colored blue.
- Chambord—A black raspberry liqueur. If you can’t find this, substitute it with a raspberry liqueur like Framboise.
- Garnish: Fresh lime slices and pineapple leaves.
Cocktail Equipment
- Cocktail Shaker—If you don’t have one, use a jar with a tight-fitting lid to shake your drink.
- Rocks Glasses—Morticia’s Nightcap is a sipping beverage served in a short glass with ice.
Mocktail Variations
Morticia’s Mocktail (Non-Alcoholic)
For a kid-friendly mocktail of the Morticia, shake 3 oz Blue Raspberry Kool-Aid with 3 oz Grape Juice and 1 teaspoon of Gold Luster Dust in a cocktail shaker with ice until combined. Pour into an ice-filled glass and top up with Lemon-Lime Soda. Garnish as desired. (Makes 1 Mocktail.)
Virgin Morticia with Non-Alcoholic Spirits
For adults who would still like to enjoy the taste of alcohol in their mocktail, you could try non-alcoholic alternatives. Try Lyres (UK and USA), Strykk (UK), and Ritual (US & Canada).
- Instead of Vodka, use Strykk Not Vodka.
- Instead of Spiced Rum, use Captain Morgan Spiced Gold 0% Alcohol Free Spirit or Lyre’s Dark Cane Spirit.
- Instead of Blue Curaçao, use Lyre’s Orange Sec and a dash of Blue Curaçao Syrup for color.
- Instead of Chambord, use Pomegranate Juice.
Follow the recipe card using the non-alcoholic alternatives listed above instead of the alcoholic ones.
Cocktail Variations
Here are some variations of the original cocktail recipe you might like to try:
- Frozen Morticia: Blend all the ingredients with crushed ice to create a slushy, frozen version. You can also do the same with the mocktail.
- Effervescent Morticia: Pour the cocktail into a larger glass and top it with club soda, sparkling water, or lemon-lime soda.
- Lady Morticia: Top the finished cocktail with sparkling wine, Prosecco, or Champagne.
- Blood Moon Morticia: Replace Chambord with Pomegranate Juice.
- Morticia’s Enchanted Forest: Replace Blue Curaçao with Crème de Mûre (blackberry liqueur). Garnish with fresh blackberries and raspberries.
- Midnight Morticia: Replace Blue Curaçao and Chambord with Tia Maria (coffee liqueur) and a chocolate liqueur.
- Morticia’s Magic: Add a teaspoon or two of Gold Luster Dust to the shaker to create a swirly, shimmering touch.
Big Batch of Morticia’s Nightcap Cocktail
Here’s how you can make a big batch of Morticia’s Nightcap for a party or gathering:
If you use the same measuring container (glass, cup, jug, etc.) for the “1 part”, the ratios will be correct, and you can make as much as you need to.
To make this haunting cocktail for a crowd, mix together:
- 1 part Vodka
- 1 part Spiced Rum
- 1 part Blue Curaçao
- 1 part Chambord
- Additional Touch: Gold Luster Dust—Ad as much as you need to create the shimmering effect in the drink.
- Make it Longer: Add lemon-lime soda to the mix.
Serve the large batch of the cocktail in drinks dispensers or pitchers, or go retro and serve from a punch bowl.
Add plenty of ice to your serving container to keep the cocktail chilled.
Saving Leftovers
While it’s best to enjoy the cocktail fresh to savor its flavors, you may have some left at the end of your party—don’t let it go to waste!
- Transfer it to an airtight pitcher or container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- Or, to make it last longer, turn it into Morticia Granita!
- Granita is a semi-frozen dessert made from sugar, water, and various flavorings. Originally from Sicily.
- Transfer the cocktail to a shallow freezer-safe container and freeze it for 6 hours (or overnight). If desired, add some simple syrup or another sweetener.
- Use a fork to break the frozen cocktail into small pieces. Serve and enjoy!
- Or pour the mixture into ice cube trays and freeze.
- Use the cocktail cubes to chill and flavor future cocktails without diluting the drink.
Setting Up Your Halloween Cocktail Bar
When setting up your bar or cocktail serving area, don’t forget:
- Ice Bucket—Filled with ice. Remember a scoop or tongs.
- Cocktail Glasses—Any glass is fine for a cocktail, but a Halloween one is even better!
- Cocktail Napkins—Patterned napkins are fun, but plain Halloween colors like black, orange, or purple work just as well.
- Cocktail Stirrers/Swizzle Sticks—Fun and functional!
- Cocktail Sticks/Picks—Skewer fruit onto cocktail picks for guests to garnish their drinks.
- Cocktail Decorations—Add additional cocktail kitsch with umbrellas, straws, etc.
