Irish Soda Bread
Soda bread is a quick bread that uses baking soda and buttermilk to help it rise instead of yeast.
Adding dark Irish beer—like Guinness stout—deepens the flavor, while oats provide fiber and a rustic texture.
This Irish beer bread recipe makes individual rolls rather than a single loaf, cutting down on baking time and giving each bite a buttery crust and soft inside.
They are delicious as a side with a hearty bowl of soup, as a snack with some Irish Cheddar cheese, or as part of a main meal. Scroll past the recipe card for a dinner party menu.

The complete list of ingredients with measurements is on the recipe card at the end of this post. The Purple Pumpkin Blog uses both cups and weighted measurements in its recipes, making American cups and kitchen food scales valuable tools for trying all the recipes. We provide US customary, imperial, and metric measurements. Still, it’s important to note that while you can combine cup measurements with weighted measures, never mix US customary/imperial (pounds, ounces, pints, etc.) with metric (kilograms, grams, liters, etc.).
