Irish Beer Bread Rolls

Rustic Irish beer bread rolls with oats, are simple to make and perfect with stew or slathered in butter.

Ingredients

  • cup all-purpose flour (plain flour)
  • ½ cup rolled oats
  • ¾ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking soda (bicarbonate of soda)
  • ¾ cup Guinness
  • ¼ cup buttermilk
  • 3 Tbsp vegetable oil
  • Tbsp molasses or honey
  • 1 Tbsp rolled oats to sprinkle on top

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F/200°C/Gas 6. Line a rimmed baking sheet with a piece of parchment paper for easy cleanup.
  • In a large bowl, combine flour, rolled oats, salt, and baking soda.

  • Whisk together the wet ingredients—beer, buttermilk, oil, and molasses—in a separate large measuring cup/jug or bowl.

  • Pour the liquid ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix well. The mixture will be wet and sticky.

  • Using a large spoon, dollop 6 semi-round balls of the mixture onto the prepared baking sheet. Use the spoon to help shape them into a circular shape.
  • Top the rolls with oats and transfer into the oven to bake for 18-20 minutes until golden brown,

  • Let the rolls cool for at least 15 minutes at room temperature. Serve and enjoy!
