Halloween Mocktail

What is it about kids and things that are gross? For some reason, they just love when things are icky and horrid! If you’re planning a Halloween party or a special spooky family dinner, then this Frogspawn Slushie mocktail is going to be a hit if your kids love all things yucky! I nearly called this non-alcoholic drink a Blended Frog, but then my husband noted that it really looked like actual frogspawn and the name stuck!

I’ve shared several cocktail recipes for Halloween and try to include alternatives for non-drinkers and for kids. This time around the Halloween mocktail is perfect for them, and the alternatives will be for the drinkers instead! More on that after the recipe card at the end of this post which you can print out too.

But first, the ingredients to make a Frogspawn Slushie!

Ingredients used in this mocktail

Since this is a frozen slush drink you are going to need plenty of ice, and you will also need the following ingredients:

  • Kiwi
  • Vanilla Syrupor you could make your own simple syrup using ½ cup each of sugar and water dissolved in a pan over medium heat. Leave to cool then stir in a teaspoon of vanilla extract. Store in an airtight jar in the fridge.
  • Water
  • Large Gummy Frogfor garnish

How to make a Frogspawn Slushie

This Halloween kids’ drink is ridiculously simple to make! The recipe makes one drink but can easily be scaled up and make a bigger batch.

You will need a blender so that you can crush up the ice and the other ingredients into a slush, so drag that out of the kitchen cupboards and whizz up that frogspawn..!

Dump lots of ice, a peeled kiwi, syrup and water into your blend and whizz it up to the desired consistency. Pour into a glass and top with a candy frog. And that’s it!

Frogspawn Slushie Variations

With all of my cocktail recipes, I try to give some variations – usually so that non-drinkers and kids can enjoy a mocktail version of the beverage. However, since this drink is non-alcoholic I am having to do the reverse!

Spiked Frogspawn Slushie (Cocktail)

Turn this mocktail into a boozy cocktail by adding in a shot of your favorite liquor when blending the drink. It could be vodka, rum, tequila, gin… it’s all good! You could also switch out the vanilla syrup for another flavor.

I love the Monin brand of syrups as there are lots of flavors and they are a very versatile ingredient that can be used in cocktails, mocktails, coffee, cocoa, shakes, smoothies, and more.

Blended Frog Slushie Mocktail

So I mentioned my original name for this Halloween mocktail, and really, if you actually blended a frog, it would probably end up more pink than green… gross, I know… so to make a Blended Frog Slush, add some strawberries and/or raspberries to the blender and make the cocktail as in the recipe card above!

Rotten Frog Slushie Mocktail

And continuing with the gross-sounding mocktail names, to make a Rotten Frog, simply add some blueberries and/or blackberries to the blender and continue as described in the recipe card.
