Remembrance Day Word Scrambles

Remembrance Day is a memorial day observed in Commonwealth member states since the end of the First World War to remember the members of their armed forces who have died in the line of duty. It is observed on 11 November in most countries to recall the end of hostilities of the First World War on that date in 1918. Hostilities formally ended “at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month”.

During the pandemic, understandably, there weren’t as many poppy sellers on the streets, however, in 2022, you will start seeing them again from the 27th of October.

If you are unable to go out to buy a poppy, donating to the Poppy Appeal online is one way that you can help those in need within the Armed Forces community; serving, and ex-serving personnel and their families.

The Poppy Shop also has a wide range of poppy items including pins, brooches, accessories, and more. If you can’t get out, or if you can’t find a poppy seller this year, this is another way for you to get involved.

100% of the profits from selling poppies go to the Royal British Legion which helps members of the Royal Navy, British Army, Royal Air Force, veterans, and their families. Their support starts after one day of service and continues through life, long after service is over.

I am not personally associated with the Royal British Legion or the Poppy Day shop but like to help in ways that I can.

I have created these free printable Remembrance Day Word Searches (the download is further down the page) that you can print off at home, work, school, care home, community center, etc., to solve – please use the donation button below if you are able.

From veterans of the Falklands War and WW2 to those who continue to play a vital role in service to Britain today, we are commemorating military and civilian service through a variety of anniversaries and events in 2022.

When should you start wearing a poppy for Remembrance Day?

Many people think that wearing a poppy 11 days before Remembrance Day is the best way to honour those who have been impacted by war.

If you wish to do the same, you can start wearing your poppy on the 31st of October until the 11th of November

How To Play Word Scramble

The name of the puzzle totally gives it all away – the words (and phrases) are scrambled up and you have to unscramble the letters to decipher them.

I’ve created three, word scramble puzzles with different difficulty levels – easy, medium, and hard.

Each one has words and phrases related to Remembrance Day.

I have included an answer sheet for each one.

You may want to give children some clues to the answers as some of the words may be a bit tricky for them to decipher.

Although that is a great learning opportunity for them and a way to research why we have Remembrance Day.

  • There are 10 single words to find in the easy word scramble. The first letter of the word is capitalized as a clue.
  • There are a total of 20 single words and phrases in the medium word scramble. The first letter of the word is capitalized as a clue.
  • There are a total of 30 single words and longer phrases in the hard word scramble. All the letters are lowercase to make this one suitable for older kids and adults!
