What Is Passover?

If you celebrate Passover, you can skip ahead as you will know all about it; but if you are curious and want to learn more, read on…

Passover (Pesach) is a holiday, which celebrates the liberation of their ancestors from slavery in Egypt. It begins on the 15th day of Nisan (the first month in Jewish calendars) and lasts for 7 days until the 21st*. In Gregorian calendars, that is the month of March or April.

During Passover week, eating leavened bread and bread products is not allowed. Instead, unleavened bread—known as matzah or matzo—is permitted and plays a significant role. It represents the hardships faced by the Hebrews during their enslavement, as well as their quick departure from Egypt during the Exodus.

*Outside of Israel, and among Reform Jews, Passover lasts for 8 days, until the 22nd.

Passover Bingo Cards

Bingo is one of those simple games that is fun to play and a fun way for children of all ages (and adults) to learn!

Using related imagery, we create many of our themed bingo games with learning in mind, like our Free Printable Earth Day Bingo CardsFree Religious Easter Bingo Printable, and Chinese New Year Bingo. This way, you can discuss the different things associated with the theme with your children.

Unlike the classic game of bingo with numbers, our free bingo cards use pictures**, which enables even the youngest of players a chance to play along!

There are many faces behind the scenes at The Purple Pumpkin Blog, and one of them is Jewish, so he was able to help with putting together the images in the 12 free pages of Passover bingo cards that you can download at the end of this blog post.

How To Set Up The Bingo Game

  • Download the free printable file to your device (downloads are further down the page, surrounded by a purple box).
  • Print the size of the bingo boards you require. If printing the half-page cards, cut them in half so each player has one each.
  • Print and cut the bingo call sheet along the lines, fold them in half and in half again, and place them into a bowl.
  • Print and cut the bingo tokens if you are using them—each player needs 9.
  • Alternatively, if you don’t want to print out the tokens, you can use dot markers or bingo markers (also called bingo daubers) to mark off each image as it is called.

Tips for Best Results

  • For the best experience, print the entire bingo set on white card stock or good-quality paper.
  • Laminating the boards is a great way to make them durable and compatible with dry-erase markers so that you can use them year after year.
  • If you laminate the calling cards, shuffle them, and draw them like playing cards.

How to Play Picture Bingo:

If you don’t know how to play bingo, here is a quick rundown.

  • Assign someone to be the bingo caller.
  • All players receive their own bingo cards and a set of tokens (if using).
  • Unlike our other printable bingo games, there isn’t a FREE SPACE, but each card has a unique layout.
    • If desired, you could let players choose their own free space.
  • Decide the winning straight line(s): horizontal lines, vertical lines, two lines, or diagonal lines. Other winning combos are four corners or filling the board entirely for a Full House.
  • The bingo caller pulls out one of the calling cards and calls it out to the players.
  • You can hold up the cards to show players the image they need to mark on their cards.
  • We have included large cards that are ideal for classroom use, or in a retirement community setting.
  • The players then cover that picture on their bingo cards.
  • The winner is the first lucky player to complete the winning line(s) and shouts BINGO!

How To Play Over Zoom or House Party

  • We’ve made digital versions of our printable bingo cards, so you can play online with friends and family via services like Zoom or House Party.
  • Send each player a different digital bingo card that they can save to their phone or tablet and use to play this fun game.
  • Play the game as usual, calling out the Passover bingo images and players marking off their digital cards with the edit/markup feature available on most phones and tablets.
  • Alternatively, they can print out their own bingo cards and play traditionally.
  • You can download the Single Cards in the download box below. Please note that the cards are graphic files that can be resized and printed to fit your paper size.
  • We have made each bingo card available as a single page so that all players can receive a different one. These single files are zipped up in a ZIP file, which you can unzip using Winzip – usually found on most computers or using WinRAR, which is the program we use.
