Word search puzzles are fun for kids and adults alike and are a perfect activity for quiet time (like when cooking a special meal!).

I am married to a Jewish man and have celebrated Pesach (the Hebrew word for Passover) several times over the years with his family. For another fun activity after the Seder, check out our Free Printable Passover Bingo Cards.nz

Like many other religious festivals, Passover has many symbolic things associated with it. It was another learning experience for me as I built the word list for these puzzles thanks to the Reform Judaism website.

I’m going to share the symbolism and meanings of [some of] the words in the Passover word searches so that you can, in turn, teach your kids (or yourself) about them while they solve the puzzles.

  • Nisanthe first month on the Jewish calendar, in which Passover falls.
  • Sedera ritual feast at the beginning of the Jewish holiday of Passover.
  • Seder Platea special plate containing symbolic foods eaten or displayed at the Passover Seder, which are:
    • Beitzah – roasted egg
    • Zeroa – shank bone
    • Maror – bitter herbs
    • Charoset – apple, nuts, spices, and wine
    • Chazeret – Lettuce
    • Karpas – Parsley
  • Chag Sameach – means Happy Festival
  • Matzahan unleavened flatbread that is part of Jewish cuisine and forms an integral element of the Passover festival.

I have created nine different word searches of varying difficulty (they are color-coded) using words and phrases associated with Passover as described below:

  • In the three easy word search puzzles (red), single words appear horizontally and vertically and forwards only.
  • In the three medium word search puzzles (blue), words and phrases appear horizontally, vertically, diagonally, and forwards only.
  • In the three hard word search puzzles (yellow), words and phrases appear forwards and backward and in all directions – horizontally, vertically, and diagonally.

Also included are the answer sheets to all the puzzles should you have trouble finding all of the words/phrases.

How To Solve A Word Search

  • A list of words is hidden in a grid of jumbled-up letters.
  • You must search through the grid to find the words, crossing them off the list as you go.
  • You can use a pen or pencil to cross out the words as they are found.
  • I like to use highlighter pens to mark words when I find them instead of crossing them through.
  • Highlighting the words is best for children as the letters can still be clearly seen (useful when words cross paths on the grid).
  • Words appear in a straight, unbroken line. Two or Three-word clues, such as “CHAG SAMEACH” will be unbroken and appear as “CHAGSAMEACH” in the grid without a space in between the words.
  • Depending on the difficulty level of the puzzle, words may appear forwards, backward, horizontally, vertically, and/or diagonally. The directions for each puzzle are included in the printable.
  • Words may also cross paths or overlap (especially the more difficult levels).

Puzzles like this Pesach word search are also fab for those with a competitive nature!

Whether it is by yourself and trying to solve the puzzle against a timer, or with other people and see who can find all the words first.
