Remembering Queen Elizabeth II

On 8th September 2022, the UK’s longest reigning monarch, Queen Elizabeth II died… her son, Prince Charles was next in line to the Crown, and as such, Prince Charles became King Charles III on that day.

I am sure many will remember the moment that they learned of the Queen’s passing – I know I do…

As a nation, we mourned and remembered her long, 70-year reign, which we had celebrated just a few months before with the Platinum Jubilee.

For most of us, Queen Elizabeth II is all we have known, and I think, that despite her old age (96), it was still a big shock as so many things changed with her passing.

The UK now has a King – the first since 1952 – and while he has already ascended the throne, he will be officially crowned at his Coronation, which is due to take place on May 6, 2023.

Many events and celebrations will no doubt be announced in the UK (and throughout the Commonwealth) to mark this historic occasion, and of course, I have made a whole set of free printable Coronation decorations to go with it!

For the kids here are some fun crafts and activities for them to do:

How To Make Printable King’s Coronation Paper Chains

Paper chains are one of the cheapest and easiest party decorations that you can make! You literally need strips of paper and some glue or sticky tape.

  • There are 6 different paper chain designs in this set. Mix and match as desired!
  • Download the free printable file to your device (tap the printable size button you need above).

  • Cut out carefully using scissors or a paper trimmer.
  • The video at the top of the screen demonstrates how to make paper chains in case you don’t know how to do it.
  • Take one of the strips and add a dab of glue (I used a glue roller, as you’ll see in the video; you could also use a glue stick) on one end, and fold it around to form a circle. This is the first loop in your chain. Now, slide another strip of paper into that loop, add a dab of glue on the end, and fold around to form a circle that is attached to the first loop.
  • Continue linking the loops until you get the length of the chain you desire, then hang it across walls, mantles, or anywhere you want to decorate!

How To Use Printable King’s Coronation Paper Liners for Trays

These paper tray liners are great for tying the theme together as they can sit on plates, platters, boards, and trays for party food to sit on.

  • There are 2 different paper tray liner designs in this set.
  • There are 4 different sizes – the larger ones will need a special printer or can be sent to a print shop.
  • The A4, A3, and US Letter sizes have patterns in both vertical and horizontal orientation.
  • Download the free printable file to your device (tap the printable size button you need above).
  • Using a printer, simply print as many of the King’s Coronation Paper Tray Liners as you need onto white paper.
  • Due to margins, you may have to trim a white outline. Cut out carefully using scissors or a paper trimmer. You could also cut shapes, such as circles for round plates.
  • Use to line trays, plates, and platters for your party food.
  • Here are other uses for the paper tray liners:
  • Make paper lanterns or paper hand fans – these make fun decorations in their own right. The examples are from my Chinese New Year printables.
  • Laminate the regular-size sheets and use them as placemats for the dinner table.
  • Use as gift wrap. When printed, the regular-sized (A4/US) wrapping paper is only enough for small gifts (here is some Christmas wrapping paper I made a few years ago to show you an example), but you can, of course, combine sheets.
  • Turn into gift bows! How to make DIY gift bows tutorial
  • Turn into envelopes to send old-fashioned snail mail (plenty of templates online).
  • Put it in a frame and hang it on the wall for some quick party decor.
  • Cut into squares and use as origami paper (again, search online for templates and instructions).
  • Use them in your scrapbook or journal as a background.
  • Cut into squares and use to make pinwheels.

  • Flip over to the blank side, and you should be able to judge where to score some lines with a scoring tool to make folding easier. They are along the bottom flap tabs, the side flap, and along each edge from point to point.
  • Fold around, and use a glue stick, glue roller, or sticky tape to secure the sides first, then upend, to tape the bottom flaps.
  • You can also layer the bottom flaps over each other so that they intersect and don’t actually need to be taped or glued! My video tutorial demonstrates how you can do this.
  • If you are using glue, you may want to add a paper clip to hold everything in place until the glue dries.
  • Fill up with popcorn or other dry snacks (crisps/chips; tortilla chips; cookies).

  • Using a printer, simply print as many of the King’s Coronation Popcorn Cones as you need onto good quality white paper or thin white cards.
  • Cut out carefully using scissors or a paper trimmer.
  • Bend around to form a cone and glue in place with a glue stick, tape, or roller glue. You may want to use a paper clip to hold it in place while the glue dries.
  • I personally like using roller glue tape when making up my printables as it’s really quick and easy to use, and no messy glue to worry about!
  • If you want to laminate your cones, cut the template first, then run it through your laminating machine. When cutting, leave a little of the laminate sheet around the edges of the cone so that it stays in place. Use a couple of staples to secure the cone in place. You may want to use a bit of tape on the inside of the cone to cover the ends of staples from catching.
