Free Christmas Word Search Printables
Word searches are such a simple but entertaining activity, especially during the busy lead-up to Christmas. They’re great for classroom quiet time, after-school fun, holiday parties, or even keeping kids occupied while you wrap gifts or prep Christmas dinner.
This Christmas Word Search Printable comes in three different difficulty levels—so younger kids can enjoy the simpler grid, while older kids (and adults!) can cozy up with a more challenging version.

Three Levels of Difficulty
- Easy Word Search Puzzle: Ten single, simple words appear horizontally, vertically, and forward only. It is perfect for younger children. You’ll find Christmassy words like ELF, BELLS, and LIGHTS.
- Medium Word Search Puzzle: Twenty longer words (single and two-word phrases) appear horizontally, vertically, diagonally, and forward only. We’ve also included other seasonal words, such as KRAMPUS, WINTER COAT, and TURKEY.
- Hard Word Search Puzzle: Thirty words appear in all directions: forwards, backward, horizontally, vertically, and diagonally! Ideal for teens and adults with longer words, plus two- and three-word phrases like GINGERBREAD MAN, COOKIES, and STAR OF BETHLEHEM.
- BONUS Word Search Puzzle: There’s just one word to find in this puzzle—Christmas. It’s hidden every which way, and you just need to write down how many times you can find it in the grid. Will you manage to find them all?!
- Also included are the answer sheets to all the puzzles, should you have trouble finding the words/phrases.
How To Solve A Word Search
- Each puzzle includes a list of Christmas-themed words hidden inside a grid of mixed-up letters. The goal is simple: search the grid, spot each word, and mark them off as you find them!
- You can use a pen or pencil, but we love using highlighters—it keeps the letters visible while making each found word pop off the page. This is especially helpful for kids, since some words overlap or cross through one another.
- All words appear in a straight, continuous line. For two- or three-word phrases (like ADVENTCALENDAR), the letters are joined together with no spaces inside the grid.
- Depending on the difficulty, words may be placed forwards, backwards, horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. The direction guide for each level is included in the printable so you’ll always know what you’re hunting for.
Beyond the Word Search!
Christmas word searches are also great for anyone with a competitive streak!
You can race the clock and try to beat your own time, or turn it into a fun challenge with family and friends to see who can spot all the words first.
Another fun option is to laminate the word searches and use them as festive placemats at the dinner table. Pair them with dry-wipe markers, and you’ve got reusable Christmas entertainment year after year!
