Who Is Krampus?
Krampus is a mythical creature from European folklore, known as the spooky counterpart to St. Nicholas. Celebrated in Alpine regions on December 5th (Krampusnacht), he teaches the importance of good behavior with his horned, furry, and mischievous presence!
For another legendary creature, download our free Build a Yeti printable. And for a more modern one: Build a Grinch!
What Is In The Free Printable Krampus Paper Template?
Your download includes all the pieces to assemble Krampus:
- Head and Body—our buildable characters have this combined.
- Face
- Mouth with Forked Tongue
- Horns
- Ears
- Arms
- Hooves—Krampus is half-human, half-goat.
- Tail
- Harness with Bells—to alert his presence.
- Switch of Sticks—for punishing the mischievous children!
- Basket of Two Children—this is how Krampus carries them away!
You can make Krampus in two sizes:
- Regular—with all the pieces on one sheet of paper to create a character around 4″/10cm tall. The regular-size printable has the head, body, face, mouth, and forked tongue in one piece.
- Large—with the pieces spread over several sheets to create a character around 12″/30cm tall.
You can purchase a black-and-white version from the Purple Pumpkin Printables Store to color and customize for added creativity!
How To Use the Build a Krampus Printable
- Download the high-quality PDF file at the end of this post and print as many copies as you need onto white (printer) paper. For best results, use good quality, thick/heavy paper.
- Alternatively, you can use the pieces as a template to trace onto coloured paper or card stock and build Krampus with them.
- You can print the free printable at home, school, office, or a Print Shop. Then, cut the pieces out with scissors.
- The Krampus printables are suitable for children of all ages; however, the regular-size free template is ideal for older children who are more skilled at cutting or those looking to hone their fine motor skills.
- The large size should be a lot easier for younger children—or you can cut them out for them. You know your children, so you will know what suits them best.
- Once cut, arrange the pieces to determine where everything goes before sticking them in place with a glue stick or sticky tape.
- We like using this roller glue because it is easy to use and has less sticky mess!
Craft Projects Using our Free Printable Krampus Paper Template
- Adding Dimension: Mount the Krampus cut-outs onto a larger piece of black construction paper and use other craft materials to embellish it. For example, glitter, craft foam, or tissue paper, to name a few. It’s a perfect activity for art class.
- Laminating: This fun Krampusnacht/Christmas/Winter Solstice craft is still possible for tiny kids who can’t yet use scissors! Use a laminator to laminate the printable and cut out each bat shape, leaving a slight margin around them. Place Velcro Dots onto each piece so Krampus can be assembled without cutting or gluing.
- Moveable Figure: Construct Krampus using split pins/brads instead of glue to make it moveable.
- Everybody Loves Puppets: Grab some popsicle sticks and the regular-sized free printable to make little puppets for role-playing or storytelling.
- Festive Decorations: Attach several Krampus paper dolls to some ribbon or string and hang them as bunting. They would make fun decorations for a party or to hang around your classroom. Add black paper to the back of each one for a neater finish.
- Krampus Mobile: Similar to the previous idea, glue two Krampus back to back with some ribbon in between. Hang them at different lengths on a wire hanger and create a Krampus Night decoration.
- Educational Tool: Use the large template to teach about European folklore and mythology. It’s a fun way to make learning about other cultures and traditions more engaging.
- Roll-A-Krampus Game: This idea is based on the classic dice game and is so much fun to play—especially for young children!
- To set up, print, and cut enough Krampus pieces for each player, assign each piece a number. This template has 16 individual pieces. Pair some of them up (e.g., horns or hooves) and use two dice for this game.
- After rolling the die, the player picks up the corresponding piece to build their Krampus. If players roll a number for a piece they already have, they skip their turn. The winner is the first player to collect all the parts and assemble them!
