Grab our Free Printable Autumn & Fall Apple Coloring Sheets for more fall printable fun.
Three Levels of Difficulty
- Easy Word Search Puzzle: Ten short, simple words appear horizontally, vertically, and forward only. Perfect for younger children just beginning to explore puzzles. You’ll find autumn words like LEAF, ACORN, APPLE, CORN, and TREE.
- Medium Word Search Puzzle: Twenty longer words appear horizontally, vertically, diagonally, and forward only. Examples include HARVEST, SUNFLOWER, ORCHARD, RUSTLING, and SWEATER.
- Hard Word Search Puzzle: Thirty words, including two-word phrases, appear in all directions—forward, backward, horizontally, vertically, and diagonally! Ideal for teens and adults who enjoy a challenge. Look out for SCARECROW, PUMPKIN SPICE, ORANGE LEAVES, HARVEST MOON, CORN MAZE, and APPLE PIE.
- Also included are answer sheets for all three puzzles, so you can easily check your work if a tricky word stumps you!
How To Solve A Word Search
- Each puzzle comes with a list of hidden words tucked inside a grid of jumbled letters. Your job is to hunt them down and mark them as you go!
- You can use a pen or pencil to cross off the words, but we prefer to use highlighter pens— it makes the words stand out without obscuring the letters. This is especially helpful for kids when words overlap or cross paths.
- Words always appear in a straight, unbroken line. For two- or three-word phrases (like PUMPKINSPICE), the letters will appear together without spaces in the grid.
- Depending on the level, words may be hidden forwards, backwards, horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. The directions for each puzzle are included in the printable, so you’ll know what to look out for.

Beyond the Word Search!
Puzzles like this seasonal word search are fab for anyone with a competitive streak! You can challenge yourself by racing against the clock or turn it into a group game to see who can find all the words first.
Another fun idea is to laminate the word searches and use them as placemats at the dinner table. With dry-wipe markers, the puzzles can be solved again and again—perfect for family nights or holiday gatherings.
Benefits of Word Searches
Word searches aren’t just fun—they’re sneaky little brain workouts too! They’re great for kids, teens, and adults, making them a simple activity with plenty of benefits:
- Develop word recognition—spotting familiar words quickly in a grid.
- Boost pattern recognition—learning how letters connect and form words.
- Encourage problem-solving—especially with trickier, overlapping puzzles.
- Grow vocabulary—by introducing new seasonal words along the way.
- Improve spelling—since players are looking closely at how words are built.
- Support memory and focus—a calm activity that trains the brain to concentrate.
Whether you’re using them in the classroom, at home, or just for a bit of autumn downtime, word searches are an easy way to combine fun and learning.
