Valentine’s Day Wall Art Craft
The full list of materials, tools, and instructions is in the printable tutorial card at the end of this post. I highly recommend reading the blog post all the way through before starting this project to ensure that you have everything required and understand the steps and timings involved.
There’s no need to head to the store and buy expensive Valentine’s Day décor when you can craft it yourself.
With just a few supplies you have all of the makings of beautiful wall art perfect for this season of love!
The framed art piece looks like you spent a lot of time on it, but in reality, it takes around 15 minutes of active time!
It’s a great craft for reusing an old picture frame or recycling those gift bags that you have tucked away in a drawer.
And once you’ve made some Valentine’s Day wall art, you’ll know the trick to making simple artwork for other holidays throughout the year!
Materials & Tools Used in This Craft
For your convenience, I’ve linked [some of] the materials and tools needed for this project to Amazon below. The quantities are on the craft tutorial card at the end of this post.
- Valentine’s Day Paper Gift Bags – you could also use gift wrap.
- Black Picture Frames – we used 5″ x 7″, but you could use any size you like. Just make sure your gift bag is big enough if you use a large frame!
- Alphabet Stickers – use a complimentary color for your art print. You can use flat vinyl stickers (as pictured above) or:
- Craft Foam Stickers – which is what we actually used as we preferred the raised look.
- Acrylic Craft Paint – we used this to paint craft foam letters black, as the ones we had were pink!
- Paintbrush – for the paint if you are using it.
- Pencil – for tracing around the cardboard backing onto the gift bag.
- Scissors – for cutting the gift bags to size.
- Ruler – use as a guideline for keeping the letter stickers straight on placement.

Cheap Craft Supplies
This can be a budget-friendly craft using supplies you may already have or that can be purchased cheaply in stores:
If you’re in the USA, check out your local Dollar Store or Dollar Tree; and if you’re in the UK, the Poundshop, The Range, Wilko, and Baker Ross are great places to shop for cheap and inexpensive craft supplies.
To the rest of the world reading this, unfortunately, I don’t know every cheap store out there – sorry! But please do hunt the ones out in your location for crafting bargains!
How Do I Make Valentine’s Day Wall Art?
The printable tutorial card with the full supplies list and instructions can be found at the end of this post.
Step 1 – Prepare Picture Frames: Gather all your supplies for Valentine’s Day Gift Bag Wall Art picture frames. Take the picture frames apart and set the glass aside.
TIP! The glass can be recycled or saved for another project.
Step 2 – Trace Cardboard Backing: Line the cardboard back from the picture frame along the bottom edge of the gift bag and use a pencil to trace around it onto the front of the bag.
TIP! Tracing around on the front of the bag means you can see the pattern and decide which part will fit best in the frame.
Step 3 – Cut Gift Bags: Cut out the rectangles from the gift bags using scissors.
Step 4 – Reassemble Picture Frames: Reassemble the picture frames, leaving the glass out.
TIP! Since gift bags have two sides, you now have more Valentine’s Day paper to use for another project.
Step 5 – Painting Letters: If your letter stickers are black vinyl, you don’t have to worry about this step, and can skip to the next one.
But if you have got craft foam letters in a non-matching color, you can simply paint them with acrylic craft paint!
Place the letters to spell LOVE and XOXO on a piece of plastic packaging (or plastic wrap), and apply black paint making sure to cover all the edges. Leave them to dry and apply a second coat, if necessary.
Step 6 – Place Stickers: Lay your ruler across the picture frame where you want the words to be placed.
Then stick the letters in place. Our frames have the word LOVE placed at the top left, and the sentiment XOXO, stacked and placed at the bottom right.
TIP! Create your own personalized messages if you like!

- 2 Valentine’s Day Gift Bags
- 2 (5" x 7") Black Picture Frames
- Letter Stickers*
- Black Craft Paint
Tools
- Paintbrush
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Ruler
Instructions
- Gather all your supplies for Valentine’s Day Gift Bag Wall Art picture frames. Take the picture frames apart and set the glass aside.
- Line the cardboard back from the picture frame along the bottom edge of the gift bag and use a pencil to trace around it onto the front of the bag.
- Cut out the rectangles from the gift bags using scissors.
- Reassemble the picture frames, leaving the glass out.
