This spicy roasted red pepper and Feta dip hails from Greece, and in Greek is called htipiti (pronounced hee-tee-pee-tee). It is also known as tirokafteri or tyrokafteri or tyrokavteri, and like many dishes, it has regional variations.

The classic recipe uses just three ingredients – roasted peppers, salty Feta cheese, and olive oil. We’ve added some red pepper flakes for a spicy kick which is a common ingredient to add. Other additions are sun-dried tomatoes, lemon juice, and fresh herbs like oregano or parsley.

This quick and easy Greek dip is a delicious snack or appetizer when served with crunchy vegetables and/or warm pita bread. It is also wonderful as a spread on sandwiches or over roasted potatoes for a decadent treat.

The red pepper and Feta dip is one of the dishes on our Mediterranean Meze Platter.

Recipes on The Purple Pumpkin Blog use both cup measurements and/or weighted measurements. American cups and kitchen food scales are handy pieces of equipment to have in your kitchen as it means you’ll be able to make all of the different recipes on my blog. I try to give American, imperial, and metric measurements in my recipes. Please note, you can mix cup measurements with weighted measurements, but never mix imperial (pounds, ounces, pints, etc.,) with metric (kilograms, grams, litres, etc.,).

Recipe Tips

  • To remove the blackened skin from the roasted peppers, some suggest placing the peppers into a plastic freezer bag. However, some plastic bags can melt from the high temperature. Instead, try placing the hot peppers right out of the oven in a heat-safe bowl, then cover it tightly with foil or a plate to seal in the steam.
  • Although it is very easy to roast your own red bell peppers, you can save some time by using the jarred variety instead.
  • Feta is easier to process at room temperature, so remove it from the refrigerator when the peppers go into the oven.

  • ¼ tsp crushed red pepper flakes
  • ¼ cup extra virgin olive oil
  • Sea salt and black pepper, to taste

  6. Serve immediately with choice of vegetable crudités and/or pita or crackers. Enjoy!
