Life is both precious and fleeting. We never know how much time we have with the important people in our lives, which is why I think it is important to create memories with friends and family as often as you can!

As you know, the Celebrate hub on The Purple Pumpkin Blog is all about celebrating life and all it brings – and I love creating memories with my loved ones.

Holidays

There’s nothing quite like an enjoyable holiday for people to spend time together and create memories which will last for many years to come. Where are you going and what you do is highly dependent on the preferences of the group, but there is no doubt that the fundamental experience is one of the most important – connecting with loved ones.

We love our family holidays to Walt Disney World, and you can read all about them in my Disney Trip Reports, but when we’ve been on holiday with extended family – siblings, cousins, and friends close enough to call our family(!) they have been full of great memories that we can talk about and relive many years after the suntans have faded.

Doing things you’ve never done before not only expands your experience, but gives a great sense of achievement, and something to tell the kids/grandkids about! One such memory is swimming with dolphins in Florida, that we still talk about to this day.

Matt Williams, CEO of Freerein Riding Holidays Ltd, is a person who believes that holidays serve multiple purposes, and says that “when it comes to making memories and enjoying yourself, there’s no better option than a riding holiday. Not only are you enjoying yourself, but you’re also connecting with people in a new and profound way, making precious memories in the process”.

Social Gatherings

Throwing a party – whether it be an intimate dinner party, a birthday party for your child, or a huge party to celebrate a milestone; bringing your friends and family together with music, dancing, food, and drink makes great memories.

The atmosphere can be whatever you want. You could have something which is high energy and exciting, or something subtle and laid back. Whatever you decide to go for, there’s no doubt that it can be an excellent way to make memories that you won’t forget. 10 years later, people still tell us how much they loved our wedding! The great thing about a social gathering is that encourages people to interact with each other in a way that they might not normally do, and can help to build meaningful connections and memories that wouldn’t generally come about.

Outdoor Events

What you will come to find, particularly in the summertime, is that there are a lot of outdoor events which you can go to and make memories not only with friends and family, but with complete strangers who might become friends for a night, a weekend, or even a lifetime!

With attractions like Glastonbury Festival hosting thousands of people, it’s easy to see why festivals are a popular ways to spend time with people. Music is a very powerful force, and it brings people together in ways that not everyone immediately understands. We had such a great time at Camp Bestival in 2015, and I have so many great memories of concerts from over the years – both the music and the fandom!

And if you can’t get to one, you can always create a festival at home with family and friends!

I think we all know the saying that “life is short” and I’ve come to realise that even more so over the past few years – maybe it is something that comes with age, I don’t know… But I know that making lasting memories with experiences, and with the people I love is more important than ever.

So just do it – book that holiday, step out of your comfort zone, eat the food, go to the concert, smell the roses, switch off social media… live in the moment and create the memories!
