Gingerbread Christmas Tree Decorations

Day 11 – Cook, Craft, Create: December 2012

For day 11 of Cook, Craft, Create: December: 2012 I’ve made some gingerbread Christmas tree decorations. I totally cheated and bought some gingerbread dough to make these, but plan on making a gingerbread house closer to Christmas when I will actually make the dough – so a recipe will be coming then!

I had bought an assortment of mini cookie cutters – they were about 1″ high – so small and cute!

Hubby and son got in on the act to make these – in fact, I let them do all the work! After rolling out the dough on a floured surface, my son started to cut out the different shapes.

After a while, they moved onto bigger cookie cutters!

After cutting all the shapes out, we poked a hole through the top (or center) of each cookie using a skewer; this was so that we could thread the gingerbread shapes onto some raffia to hang from our Christmas tree.

All cooked and ready to thread…

…then onto the real pine tree that we bought! I think that they look lovely, and it’s nice to have a traditional tree to go alongside my modern, colourful Christmas tree.

I don’t think we’ve ever made edible decorations for the tree before…not that they will be very fresh by the time Christmas day rolls around mind you! Was a fun little afternoon project for the whole family – I hope you have a go at making your own edible decorations!
