Remembrance Day Word Searches

Remembrance Day is a memorial day observed in Commonwealth member states since the end of the First World War to remember the members of their armed forces who have died in the line of duty. It is observed on 11 November in most countries to recall the end of hostilities of the First World War on that date in 1918. Hostilities formally ended “at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month”.

2020 has been the strangest year, and our lives have had to change so much due to the pandemic. It’s affected not only our daily lives, but events worldwide too.

With Remembrance Day in November, the Poppy Appeal is at risk because understandably, many volunteers who collect for the appeal by standing on the streets, outside shops and stations, will not be able to do so.

Donating to the Poppy Appeal online is one way that you can help those in need within the Armed Forces community; serving and ex-serving personnel and their families.

The Poppy Shop also has a wide range of poppy items including pins, brooches, accessories, and more. If you can’t get out, or if you can’t find a poppy seller this year, this is another way for you to get involved.

100% of the profits from selling poppies go to the Royal British Legion who helps members of the Royal Navy, British Army, Royal Air Force, veterans, and their families. Their support starts after one day of service and continues through life, long after service is over.

I am not affiliated in any way with the Royal British Legion or the Poppy Day shop, but want to do my bit to help this year.

I have created these free printable Remembrance Day Word Searches that you can print off at home, work, school, care home, community center, etc., to solve – please donate if you can.

In 2020 we pay tribute to the men and women of the Second World War generation, and to those of today’s, who have served and sacrificed to defend our nation. We remember the collaboration of the Commonwealth and Allied nations who stood shoulder to shoulder then to secure our freedom and the communities coming together today to protect us all.

How To Solve Word Searches

There are three difficulty levels for these word search puzzles – easy, medium, and hard. That makes them suitable for all ages and abilities.

  • There are 10 simple, single words to find in the easy puzzle, words appear horizontally and vertically and forwards only.
  • There are 20 words and phrases in the medium puzzle, words appear horizontally, vertically, and diagonally and forwards only.
  • There are 30 words and phrases in the hard puzzle, words appear forwards and backwards and in all directions – horizontally, vertically, and diagonally.

Also included is the answer sheets to all the puzzles should you have trouble finding [some of] the words/phrases.

Puzzles like this word search are fab for those with a competitive nature!

Whether it is by yourself and trying to solve the puzzle against a timer, or with other people and seeing who can find all the words first.

As you find the words, cross them off the list.

I like to use highlighter pens to mark words when I find them, as opposed to crossing them through.

Highlighting the words is best for children as the letters can still be clearly seen (useful when words cross paths on the grid).
