What is Remembrance Day?
Remembrance Day is a memorial day observed in Commonwealth member states since the end of the First World War to remember the members of their armed forces who have died in the line of duty. It is observed on 11 November in most countries to recall the end of hostilities of the First World War on that date in 1918. Hostilities formally ended “at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month”.

If you cannot buy from a volunteer poppy seller, donating to the Poppy Appeal online is one way to help those in need within the Armed Forces community, serving and ex-serving personnel and their families.
The Poppy Shop has many poppy items, including pins, brooches, accessories, and more. If you can’t get out, or if you can’t find a poppy seller this year, this is another way for you to get involved.
100% of the profits from selling poppies go to the Royal British Legion, which helps members of the Royal Navy, British Army, Royal Air Force, veterans, and their families. Their support starts after one day of service and continues through life long after service is over.
Remembrance Day 2024
2024 marks the 80th anniversaries of momentous battles and turning points of the Second World War. The D-Day landings of 6th June – the largest seaborne invasion in history – marked the beginning of the liberation of western Europe.

When should you start wearing a poppy for Remembrance Day?
Many people think wearing a poppy 11 days before Remembrance Day is the best way to honor those impacted by war.
If you wish to do the same, you can start wearing your poppy on October 31st until November 11th.
How To Assemble and Use Printable Poppy Paper Chains
- Download the Printable: Start by downloading our free printable in the purple download area at the end of this post.
- Print and Cut: Print as many paper chains as needed onto good-quality white paper—you don’t want them to be too flimsy. Cut out carefully using scissors or a paper trimmer.
- First Link: Take one of the strips and add a dab of glue to one end. We like glue rollers for less mess and quick drying. Fold them around to form a circle. This is the first link/loop in your chain. You can also use a stapler for this task.
- Second Link: Now, slide another strip of paper into that link, add a dab of glue on the end, and fold around to form a circle attached to the first loop. You have now created the first links in your chain.
- Keep Going: Continue linking the loops until you reach the desired chain length, then hang it across walls, mantles, or anywhere else you want to decorate.
- Decorate Your Home: Drape these chains around your living room, mantles, windows, or doorways to bring the spirit of Remembrance Day into your home.
- School Projects: Teachers can use these chains as a classroom activity to help students learn about the importance of the day.
- In the Community: Assemble long paper chains to hang at community centers, retirement homes, hospital wards, or any place where you want to commemorate this significant day with thoughtful decorations.
