  • DairyUnsalted Butter, Whole Milk (or you could use Heavy Cream/Double Cream for a richer frosting)
  • Powdered Sugar also known as Icing Sugar or Confectioners Sugar.
  • Pure Vanilla Extractalways buy good vanilla as it really does make a flavor difference.
  • Special Equipment Electric Mixer – either handheld or standing. Alternatively, you could use a Balloon Whisk if you want to work hard!

This classic buttercream frosting recipe is ready in just 10 minutes with just four ingredients.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 4 cup powdered sugar, sifted
  • 2 tsp real vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup whole milk or heavy cream for a creamier frosting

Instructions

  1. Cream the butter in a large mixing bowl with an electric mixer until perfectly smooth.
  2. Sift in the powdered sugar and continue mixing until smooth.
