A Weekend In Brighton
Home » Travel »Since I’ve just blogged (rather late!) about our meal at Armadillo Restaurant and Bar before going to see Darren Hayes at The IndigO2 in London, I thought I might as well continue catching up and share my photographs from when hubs and I went to Brighton to see Darren Hayes (again!)
We have been to Brighton, on the south coast of England a few times over the years – we enjoy it down there – it’s a lovely, quirky seaside town, and not quite as chavvy as Southend!
We drove down on the Friday, in the rain, and the cold, and I didn’t think we’d even manage to go out for a walk, let alone down to the beach and pier. I took this photo as we walked to the guest house from the car park. It would seem that Brighton now has a wheel!
After dumping our stuff in the guest house (which I won’t be reviewing – it was just too awful for words!!), we decided to go and have a late lunch/early dinner at our favourite restaurant in Brighton – Moshi Moshi – a sushi bar which has always been amazing.
However, on this outing, it wasn’t…such a shame…there wasn’t much going around on the sushi belt, and the noodles we ordered tasted bleh – not sure what seasoning they put on them, but it was over powering. And even though we know it is a pricey restaurant, it felt really expensive for the mediocre food we had :(
I did plan to write a separate review, but I just don’t have it in me…here are the photos I took of the food…
Now, to Saturday, where the sun came out and it was actually a little bit on the warm side!
Our guest house was a stones throw away from the Brighton Wheel, so we decided that yes, we would go on it. We’ve been on the London Eye and the Yorkshire Wheel in the past, and it’s cool to see the vista from a different view.
It’s £8 per adult to go on the wheel – there are 3 revolutions and you can see for miles!
As you go around, the narrator (who happens to be Steve Coogan), tells you what is what – so you not only get a great view, but are educated on what you are looking at, at the same time!
After our spin on the wheel, we took a walk along the beach and up onto Brighton Pier.
It’s free to walk along Brighton Pier which is 1772 feet long, and I feel is a lovely piece of British seaside culture.
There are lots of things to do on the pier…grab a bag of chips, relax on a [free to hire] deck chair, get your tarot read, sit and have a chat, look out to the sea, enjoy the view,
There are arcades, sideshow games, food stalls and restaurants. There is also a funfair at the end of the pier, which you pay for per ride.
After our walk up and down the pier, we stopped for some lunch in the Harvester across the road…rubbish service, but the food was good! Thank God, as the sea air makes you feel really hungry! We got a sharing starter, and a sharing platter for our main dish :D
We took away a couple of ice-cream sundaes, then went back to the guest house to get ready for the soundcheck at The Brighton Dome.
About a 10 minute walk from where we were staying, we strolled round to the Dome, passing the Brighton Pavilion, which we always drive past, but we’ve never seen up close. It is an amazing structure, and was a former royal residence.
