So last week I blogged about my excitement of going to see my favourite singer of all time – Darren Hayes (former Savage Garden). Well, the two concerts we were due to see, have now been and gone…just home from our weekend away in Brighton to see the last show of The Secret’s Out Tour, and all I can tell you is how amazingly awesome it was!! I’m biased of course, I’m such a fangirl when it comes to Darren, but he really does just blow me away with his voice each and every single time I see him live.

Before Brighton though, came IndigO2, London. I’ve never been to that venue before; although the mother venue – O2 is like home from home for us – we’ve seen many concerts there over the years!

We stopped in a restaurant for a spot of lunch, before going to join the VIP queue to check in, be given our tickets and be shown into the venue for the sound check. When we opened up the envelope with our tickets, I was very happy to see that we were three rows back from the stage :D One of the perks of being a VIP is that you are guaranteed seats in the first five rows.

We were led into sound check, which had already started. I’ve seen Darren sound check before on his Time Machine Tour, and he always has a laugh and joke with his fans, which I think is fab. He sounded amazing, even though he wasn’t giving it his all – saving that for show time! After about 20 minutes or so, and satisfied that everything sounded good, Darren waved goodbye to us, and we were led to the VIP reception in the bar above the IndigO2. We were all given tokens for a couple of drinks, and sat down and chatted with fellow fans, one of whom had come over all the way from Brazil! We were also given our VIP gifts, which i don’t have a photograph of to hand, but consisted of a purple tote bag, signed programme, hardback notebook and a keyring.

Before we knew it, it was time to go back down in the venue and take our seats. The opening act were The Candle Thieves. I’ve never heard their music before, but they were pretty good, and I enjoyed their tracks. A half hour interval took place between them and Darren’s appearance on stage…he walked slowly onto the stage as the bars of ‘God Walking Into The Room’ started to play, holding up the same blue umbrella that he did at last year’s ‘The Secret Tour’, that we saw at Shepherd’s Bush Empire. Everyone was up on their feet, cheering and singing along – he was here, and he was sounding amazing.

He pulled out old classics from his Savage Garden days, including ‘To the Moon & Back’ and my favourite – ‘Affirmation’, plus tracks from all his solo albums – the sound was a bit off for a couple of tracks, almost like speaker had blown, which was such a shame, and I had to plug my ears to hear his voice – and he was pitch perfect :)

As the last notes of ‘Blood Stained Heart’ played out, Darren and his band took a bow; as always, it was hard to walk away knowing it had ended already! But, with one more concert a few days later, it wasn’t too long before I would get to hear and see him again ❤

Here are some photographs that I sneaked in at the concert – I found out at the very last moment that it had been requested that no photographs be taken. A major sad face from this fan…but I couldn’t help but take a few sneaky shots though! I’m always mindful, in that I don’t use flash, and minimize how long I’m holding the camera up for – those bright screens of digital cameras can be off putting for the people behind you.
