Blackberries are at their peak in the Summer and taste so good, but it seems like this particular berry is a forgotten fruit.
We always see recipes for strawberries and blueberries, however, blackberries always seem to be the last one remembered.
Blackberries are such a versatile fruit and they work well in baked goods, cobblers, jam, syrups, and in cocktails!
So why not use these fresh berries is in this vodka cocktail?
This cocktail starts by smashing the blackberries and mint and then mixing them with two types of vodka and blackberry schnapps.
Fresh lemonade goes into too, along with blackberry ginger ale.
Poured over ice and served with a fresh mint and blackberry garnish, this drink is absolutely delicious and summery and has such a pretty color too!
Ingredients Used In This Cocktail
For your convenience, I’ve linked any specialized ingredients needed for this recipe to Amazon below.
- Vodka – use your favorite brand
- Citron Vodka – a lemon-flavored vodka
- Blackberry Schnapps – or a blackberry liqueur if you can’t source schnapps
- Lemonade – in the UK this is not our regular fizzy lemonade, but the still stuff. Tesco sells a Finest Still Lemonade Juice, and Fentimans Victorian Lemonade is also still.
- Blackberry Ginger Ale – if you can’t find flavored ginger ale, use the regular kind. Ginger ale is a carbonated soft drink flavoured with ginger, and should not be confused with ginger beer which is an alcoholic beverage.
To smash the blackberries you can use a muddler which is a tool used in cocktail making to squash or “muddle” fruits to use in drinks.
However you could use the back of a spoon, a fork, or the end of a small rolling pin to do the same job.
And while this is a shaken cocktail, don’t worry if you don’t have a cocktail shaker, you could just use a container with a tight-fitting lid – like a mason jar, water bottle, or even the cup on a blender or smoothie maker.

Blackberry Vodka Cocktail Variations
I like to try and give variations on the cocktails shared on The Purple Pumpkin Blog, and especially turning the cocktail into a mocktail so that non-drinkers (and kids if suitable) can enjoy the drink too!
Lemon & Blackberry Mocktail (non-alcoholic)
So that non-drinkers can enjoy a non-alcoholic version of this cocktail it really is as simple as removing the alcohol elements and replacing the blackberry schnapps/liqueur with blackberry syrup.
I love the Monin brand of syrups as there are lots of flavors and they are a very versatile ingredient that can be used in cocktails, mocktails, coffee, cocoa, shakes, smoothies, and more.
To make a Blackberry Mocktail for two people, smash 6 blackberries in a cocktail shaker, and add 4 mint leaves that have been finely shredded. Then pour in
- 10 oz fresh lemonade
- 2 oz blackberry syrup
to the cocktail shaker and shake well until blended.
Pour into glasses filled with ice and top up with blackberry ginger ale. Garnish glass with fresh mint and whole blackberries.
Frozen Blackberry Vodka Cocktail
Want to turn this cocktail into a frozen slushie? Easy! Put all the ingredients in a blender with a generous amount of crushed ice – then blend till smooth. Serve with a straw, and watch out for brain freeze!
Blackberry Vodka Party Punch
If you want to make a big batch of this blackberry vodka cocktail for a crowd you totally can!
As long as you use the same measuring container (glass, cup, jug etc) for the “1 part”, the ratios will be correct and you can make as much as you need to. Serve in drinks dispensers, pitchers, or go really retro and serve it from a punch bowl!
Make sure you add plenty of ice to your serving receptacle of choice. Provide fresh mint leaves and whole blackberries for guests to garnish their drinks.
If serving from a drinks dispenser, you may want to strain the muddled blackberries so that they don’t clog the spout.
To make a batch of blackberry vodka party punch, mix together:
- 2 parts blackberries
- 2 parts vodka
- 2 parts citron vodka
- 2 parts blackberry schnapps
- 6 parts lemonade
- 2 parts ginger ale
For the fresh fruit element, I’ve given a rough estimate that the blackberries used in the recipe card for 2 drinks are around 2 oz, so I’ve listed 2 parts in the recipe list above. Use as much or as little mint as you like.
This cocktail recipe is intended for adults of the legal drinking age in your country of residence.
Please drink responsibly. Do not drink and drive.
