Homemade Unicorn Soaps

If you have ever wanted to make your own soap at home, but not sure where to begin, these cute unicorn soaps are a great place to start. They are super simple to make, as they use a melt and pour soap base, that is a breeze to use!

You can use your favorite colors and scents when making your soaps – make sure that you buy ones that are suitable for soap making.

You could also make a variety of different shapes to go along with the unicorns – why not try making stars, clouds, or rainbows? You want to use molds that can withstand high heat, so silicone is perfect for making soaps. Silicone molds also benefit from being flexible, making removing your set soaps an easy job.

Why is homemade soap better?

I’m not going to preach that I know all about commercial soap because I don’t – but with most things in this world, homemade is pretty much always the better choice because we know what has gone into making that product.

For example, these unicorn soaps contain shea butter. Shea butter is a fat extracted from the nut of the African shea tree and is very nourishing for your skin due to its concentration of natural fatty acids and vitamins. This ingredient is often used to moisturize dry skin and help protect your skin’s natural oils. Using homemade soap helps to ensure you’re using ingredients that are as natural as possible on your body

You can also customize your soap with different colors, scents, exfoliants, and shapes, that you would probably never find in stores! I discovered Soap Queen’s website during my research, and she has the low-down on why we should be making homemade soaps. Well worth a read, and looking in awe at her amazing homemade skincare product tutorials.

How To Make Unicorn Soaps at Home

Step 1: Melt the soap base in the microwave for 30 seconds. If not fully melted, heat in 10-second intervals until fully melted. If you are going to make different colors, divide the melted soap base into different cups to mix in the soap dye.

Step 2: Add a drop or two of the soap colorant to the soap base and mix well with a wooden stir stick. Remember you can always add more dye, but you can’t take it away!

Step 3: Carefully pour the mixture into the mold, be mindful that it will be hot and can burn skin. Children should be supervised if they are crafting with you.

TIP! After each pour, spray the soap with 99% isopropyl alcohol to get rid of any bubbles.

Step 4: Leave the unicorn soaps to cool and harden for 1-2 hours, then carefully pop out of the molds.

Reasons Unicorn Soaps Make a Great Gift!

  • Do you know someone who loves unicorns, but not sure they would appreciate a theme home decor gift? These soaps are perfect as they are acknowledging their love of this magical creature, without going overboard with a garish product they might hide in a closet!
  • If you know someone that loves skincare, the shea butter in these soaps will let them know that you are thinking of them when you give handmade soap as a gift.
  • They’ll be completely unique because YOU made them! Customize the soaps in the recipient’s favorite colors and fragrances for a one-of-a-kind present.

To present your soaps as a gift, pop the soaps into a cellophane bag, or a box – layered with some shredded tissue paper for protection – and finish off with ribbon and a gift tag.

I just cannot help but get excited when I think about my readers making these easy and fun to create colorful unicorn soaps to give as a gift or to add a little magic to their bathroom. I highly recommend you gather up the ingredients and start making your handmade soap today!
