Homemade Autumn/Fall Wreath {Crafty October}

October is bringing my favourite day of the year – Halloween, and in view of that, I’m getting all crafty, and hope to do a craft a day :D I’ve got lots of ideas in the pipeline, I just hope I get the chance to do them all! So this month, at The Purple Pumpkin Blog, it is Crafty October!
And here is today’s offering…my Homemade Autumn/Fall Wreath…
I’ve seen so many fantastic wreaths on Pinterest and whilst reading through my blog list, and thought that this year I’d give it a go myself :)
I bought a polystyrene ring and some string from a craft shop and got to work. I planned to wrap the string around the ring, but wasn’t sure how well I would cover it, so painted in black, just in case it showed through.
I tied a loop at the end of the string, (so I could hang the finished wreath) and then secured it in place, by wrapping the string around the ring, and trapping the loop. Probably doesn’t make too much sense, but you’ll probably get it when you actually do it!
I then started the very long task of wrapping the string around the ring. Once I came back to the start, I decided that way too much of the ring was showing, so I doubled back over, and I think it gave the wreath a better finish.
With my ring all covered with string (it took forever!), it was time for the fun part of deciding how to decorate it. I’ve got a big bag of autumn crafty stuff – pumpkins, pine cones, leaves, toadstools and berries. (I used them to decorate my Halloween table last year), and thought these would be good to use on my autumn wreath.
After deciding what should go where, I used hot glue to stick everything in place.
I am really pleased with the way this turned out! I daren’t put it on the front door though, as someone would probably steal it knowing my luck (we don’t really do wreaths on doors in the UK, unless it’s Christmas), so it will get hung in the house somewhere.
This is what it would look like on my front door though!
