Halloween Memory Match Game
Halloween Memory Match is an exciting and straightforward card game where players match pairs of Halloween-themed images.
Our free printable includes 24 cards with treats like cupcakes, candy, and chocolate frogs. It also features iconic Halloween images like a black cat, a bubbling cauldron, and a tombstone. The cards also feature classic costumes, from a wizard to a pumpkin fairy to Wednesday Addams to a zombie!
It’s ideal for kids from kindergarten age and up, but anyone can enjoy this entertaining and educational game.
The premise of our free Halloween memory game is simple: flip over two cards. If they match, you keep them and take another turn; if they don’t, play moves to the next player. The winner is the person with the most pairs.
This game is perfect for home, school classrooms, or Halloween Parties. You can print it, cut it out, and start immediately!

DIY Halloween Match Game Cards
- Print the Game: Print as many Halloween memory match cards as you need onto regular printer paper or cardstock for a sturdier set, using a printer at home, school, office, or a print shop (online or in-store).
- Two Card Sizes are available, with either 8 or 2 pairs of Halloween cards per page. Print the size suitable for your needs.
- Back of the Cards: We have provided 2 different card backs, which you can print out using the duplex function if your printer has it.
- You can also print out the front and back of each set of cards and glue them together before cutting them out.
- Alternatively, mount the pairs of Halloween images onto colored construction paper or cardstock to create a nice reverse side for the cards.
- This is optional. You can leave the backs of the cards white if you prefer, but remember that if you use thin paper, you may see the images through the paper.
- Cut the Cards: Cut the cards with scissors or a paper trimmer.
- First, cut around the whole sheet of cards, then horizontally and vertically down the middle of the thicker lines to make the cards.
- Optional Lamination: After cutting, laminate each card to protect it for longevity. When cutting the laminate sheet, leave a slight edge around each card so it doesn’t fall apart. Alternatively, cover them with clear contact paper (sticky back plastic in the UK) for durability.
How To Play Memory Match (Concentration)
The rules of this game are so simple that everyone, from young children to seniors, can play. It’s a wonderful multi-generational game that can provide hours of entertainment!
Memory is a great game to play in a small group (2-4 players), in larger groups (up to 8 players), and even as a solo player.
Setting Up the Game
- Shuffle the Cards: You want to mix all the pairs of cards as much as possible!
- Place the Cards: Lay the cards face down in a grid formation on a large, flat surface such as a table or the floor.
- Grid Formation: A grid makes it easier to remember where card pairs are, but you could also place them more haphazardly if you prefer!
- For Younger Children: Use just one set of cards with fewer pairs for them to match.
- For Older Kids: Use all 24 pairs for a challenging game.
- For Adults and Seniors: Use any number and formation of cards you like. This is a great way to exercise those memory skills that can lose function with age.
Game Instructions
- The first player flips two cards of their choice, trying to match pictures on the front of the cards. If they match, they keep the pair and have another go. If not, the next player takes their turn.
- The game continues until all pairs are matched.
- The person with the most pairs wins!
- BONUS IDEA! Why print out two sets of cards and use them to play a game of Snap!
Benefits of Memory Match Games
- The rules are simple for all ages, from younger to older children to adults and seniors.
- Not only are the rules simple, but it’s fun to play whether you’re in 1st grade, middle school, high school, or playing as a family; this game is a blast!
- The game helps develop a child’s concentration by requiring close attention to the faces of the cards and their position on the table.
- The game is a fun way to develop and nurture memory growth.
- Flipping over cards and placing them down helps strengthen fine motor skills.
- It can help with visual discrimination, which is the ability to see differences and similarities—such as differences in size and shape.
- Printable matching games help to develop turn-taking and teach you how to be a gracious winner or loser!
- The game can help with color recognition, letters, words, numbers, shapes, literacy, and numeracy (depending on the types of cards used).
