Free Printable Paralympics Memory Match Game Cards

Our free printable Paralympics memory match game is an excellent resource for parents and educators looking to bring a slice of the Paralympic Games into their teaching or family fun times.

As kids, we called this game Concentration, but you may have called it The Memory Game or Matching Pairs (or something else entirely!).

Our free resources include:

  • 64 pairs of cards depicting Para Sports like Blind Football, Boccia, Goalball, Para Athletics, Sitting Volleyball, Wheelchair Rugby, and more, plus sports equipment and other Summer Paralympics details like gold, silver, and bronze medals.
  • Two card sizes are available, with either 8 or 2 pairs of Paralympic Memory Match cards per page. Print the size suitable for your needs. (Due to the graphics’ size, some images will be landscape orientation rather than portrait.)
  • Paris 2024 cards with designs featuring the Paris 2024 logo, the Eiffel Tower, and the adorable mascot, The Phryges.
  • Optional backing papers are available in the Paralympic Agitos colors: red, blue, and green; additional white and black are available.
  • FREEBIE BONUS! Grab our Summer Paralympics Vocabulary List (available in the download area) to learn more about the Paralympic sports and the venues used in France.

The premise of our fun memory game is simple: flip over two cards. If the cards match, you keep them and take another turn; if they don’t, play moves to the next player.

DIY Memory Game Cards

  • Print the Game: Print as many Paralympics memory match game cards as you need onto regular printer paper or cardstock for a sturdier set, using a printer at home, school, office, or a print shop (online or in-store).
    • We have provided the backside for the cards, which you can print out using the duplex function if your printer has that.
    • You can also print out the front and back of each set of cards and glue them together before cutting them out.
    • Alternatively, mount the free template onto colored construction paper or card stock to create a nice reverse side to the cards. This is optional—you can leave the back of the cards white if you prefer, but remember that if you use thin paper, you may see the images through.
  • Cut the Cards: Each printable page contains eight (small) pairs of cards or two (large) pairs of cards, so you must cut them to size with scissors or a paper trimmer.
    • First, cut around the whole sheet of cards, then horizontally and vertically down the middle of the thicker gray lines to make the cards.
  • TIP! To protect each card for longevity, laminate them after cutting. Leave a slight edge around each card when cutting the laminate sheet so they don’t fall apart. Alternatively, cover them with clear contact paper (sticky back plastic in the UK) for durability.

Memory Match Game Instructions

This game is so much fun, and the rules are simple: everyone can play, from preschoolers to kindergarten-aged kids to older children, adults, and seniors. It’s a fabulous multi-generational game.

Memory is a great game to play in a small group (2-4 players), in larger groups (up to 8 players), and even as a solo player.

Setting Up the Game

  • Shuffle the Cards: You want to mix all the pairs of cards as much as possible!
  • Place the Cards: Lay the cards face down in a grid formation on a large, flat surface such as a table or the floor.
  • Layout: A grid makes it easier to remember where different cards are. However, you could also place them more haphazardly if you prefer!
  • For Younger Children: Use fewer cards with fewer pairs for them to match.
  • For Older Kids: Use all 64 pairs for a challenging and fun game.
  • For Adults and Seniors: Use any number and formation of cards you like. This is a great way to exercise those memory skills that can lose function with age.

Game Rules

  • The first player flips two cards of their choice, trying to match pictures on the front of the cards.
  • If the cards match, the player keeps the pair and has another go. If not, the next player takes their turn.
  • The game continues until all pairs are matched.
  • The person with the most pairs wins!
  • BONUS IDEA! Why print out two sets of cards and use them to play a game of Snap!

Benefits of Memory Match Games

  • The rules are simple for all ages, from younger to older children to adults and seniors.
  • Not only are the rules simple, but it’s fun to play whether you’re in 1st grade, middle school, high school, or playing as a family; this game is a blast!
  • The game helps develop concentration skills by requiring close attention to the faces of the cards and their position on the table.
  • The game is a fun way to develop and nurture memory skills.
  • Regularly playing memory games helps enhance both short-term and cognitive memory—valuable as we age.
  • It can help with visual discrimination, which is the ability to see differences and similarities—such as differences in size and shape.
  • Printable matching games help to develop turn-taking and teach you how to be a gracious winner or loser!
  • Depending on the theme, the game can help with color recognition, letters, words, numbers, and shapes, improving literacy and numeracy.
  • Discussing the cards will support language development. This will help students of all ages improve their vocabulary related to sports and global culture.
