Star Wars Paper Chains

I have been meaning to make Star Wars themed paper chains in forever but I never got around to designing them – until now. I’ve had a few requests for these recently which kicked me into gear, and I finally have the first set available!

Starting with the original movie, Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, I plan on creating several different sets of paper chains based on this awesome franchise! Next up will be the bad guys!

Make sure you are part of The Pumpkin Patch so that you don’t miss out. Info below.

There are so many characters in the Star Wars universe – and many of them have multiple iconic costumes – that I thought that making different sets of paper chains would be the best way to go.

The good guys come first, so the following characters are included in this set:

  1. Han Solo
  2. Princess Leia
  3. Luke Skywalker
  4. Obi-Wan Kenobi
  5. Chewbacca
  6. R2-D2
  7. C-3PO

The next set to come will include Darth Vader, Stormtrooper, Greedo, A’Koba (Sandperson), Ponda Baba, and a Jawa.

In the printable, each character strip touches the one next to it (unlike my original version you see below with the tiny white line between them). You can easily follow the line of each character to cut them out.

Kids can practice their cutting skills as they chop up the sheet of strips for looping together to make chains. When I was a kid, my sister and I would make paper chains, and have competitions to see who could make the longest chain!

Craft Supplies You Will Need

A few basic craft supplies are needed to make paper chains, which have got to be one of the easiest homemade party decorations to make, ever!

You’ll find lots of free printable paper chains in my archives for seasonal holidays and themed parties.

How To Use This Printable

Downloads are further down the page and surrounded by a purple box.

As with pretty much all my printables I’ve provided two paper sizes – A4 and US Letter (8.5″ x 11″) – use which size is appropriate for your printer.

Print as many pages of the paper chains as you need onto good quality paper – you don’t want the chains to be too flimsy – then cut into strips with scissors or a paper cutter which would make the job a lot quicker.

Assembling Paper Chains

The demo video on this page is from my Easter paper chains showing you how to make paper chains.

Take one of the strips and add a dab of glue (I tend to use a roller glue) on one end, and fold around to form a circle. This is the first loop in your chain.

Now, slide another strip of paper into that loop, add a dab of glue on the end, and fold around to form a circle that is attached to the first loop.

Continue linking the loops until you get the chain length you desire.

Then all you need to do is hang them up to decorate the room – or even go really old school and hang them all over your Christmas tree!

If you’re making these Star Wars chains to countdown to your vacation, make as many loops as there are days to your trip, then remove one each day.
