How To Use The Free Printable Christmas Matching Game

The colorful cards are easy to print on your home printer, but you can send them to a print store if you don’t have one.

  • Print as many Christmas matching game printables as you need onto white paper or card stock.
  • We have provided patterned card backs, which you can print out using the duplex function if your printer has that feature.
  • If you can’t print duplex, print out the front and back for each set of cards and glue them together before cutting them out.
  • Alternatively, mount the cards onto colored construction paper to create a nice reverse side to the cards.
  • This is optional – you can leave the back white if you prefer, but remember that if you use thin paper, you may see the images through at the back! In this case, we recommend using white cardstock to print onto.
  • Cut around the whole sheet of cards first, then down the middle of the thicker red lines horizontally and vertically. You may find that a paper cutter will make this job more effortless than a pair of scissors.
  • TIP! Laminate each card after cutting to make them more durable. Leave a slight edge around each card when cutting the laminate sheet so as to not fall apart.

How To Play Christmas Memory (Concentration)

Whether you call this game Concentration, Memory, Matching Pairs, or something else, the premise is pretty much the same.

  • Shuffle the cards – you can use just one set (8 pairs of cards) for younger kids and all sets for older children and adults.
  • Place the cards face down in a grid formation across the table or floor. A grid makes remembering where cards are more straightforward – or you could place them more haphazardly if you prefer!
  • Players take turns to flip over two cards and see if they are a matching pair. If they are, they keep the pair of cards and take another turn.
  • If they don’t match, the cards are flipped back over in the same place, and the next player has their turn.
  • Once all the cards have been matched, the game is over, and the person with the most pairs wins!

Benefits of Memory Match Games

  • The rules of this fun memory game are simple for even the youngest players (ages 3 and up).
  • The game helps to develop important skills such as concentration and memory skills.
  • The free Christmas matching game helps with visual discrimination, which is the ability to see differences and similarities – such as differences in size and shape.
  • Games help to develop turn-taking and how to be a gracious winner or loser!
  • Depending on the theme, printable memory games can help with color recognition, letters, words, numbers, and shapes and, in turn, improve literacy and numeracy.
