Plus Size Fashion for Camp Bestival

The family festival, Camp Bestival is but a few days away now (exciting!) and I’ve finally gotten around to sorting out which clothes I’m going to be taking with me. I bought some new tops (as I was in dire need of new clothes anyway!) and am adding some other bits from my wardrobe.

I live in leggings, as they’re the most comfortable thing for me as a plus-size gal to wear. I do have some jeans, buried at the back of the wardrobe, but I doubt they fit me at the moment, so they are staying home. I’ve got both cropped and regular length leggings, so it’ll be a check on the weather forecast before we go as to which type I’ll take!

When I bought my new tops it was gorgeously hot and sunny, but the weather has turned rainy and chilly – I’m not a happy bunny! I am sun worshipper, and this grey weather in July and into August is doing my head in! So, all of my tops are short sleeve or sleeveless… But, I’ve got some vest tops I can pop under tops, to stay warm. Frequent festival goers tell me that layers are the way to go! I’ve also got a warm cardi, a hoody and a wrap to snuggle into if I need to.

Footwear comes in the form of my super comfy Crocs, which I wear all the time – and if they get muddy, they’re easy to clean. For lots of rain and mud, I’ve been sent a pair of extra-wide-fitting Jileon wellie boots* (in purple of course!) which I discovered very recently. I have wide calves, and regular wellies just won’t go on, so this find has been a life saver. I’ve also got a pair of welly warmers (long socks)* to wear with them. That should keep my feet all toasty and dry! Again, for the rain, I’ve got a poncho (it’s my Walt Disney World one, and not the black one you see here!) and I’ll take a brolly too.

For sleeping, I’ve got some warm pyjamas and a jumper – plus gloves, thick socks and a woolly hat. I really do feel the cold when I sleep, and with just a tent to protect us from the elements of night, I’m taking all the precautions that I can! I do have a onsie (I have no shame!) but didn’t think that would be practical for camping!

The theme of this year’s Camp Bestival is Go Wild, so I’ve got a feather necklace, flowers for my hair and some temporary tattoos. I know folks do go all out with dressing up, but we haven’t this year… unless I can find something really last minute! And if I can’t, there is always next year…

I’m wavering between taking too many clothes and not enough! This is the first time camping for us, so it’s hard to gauge… but here is my plus size fashion packing list for Camp Bestival 2015:

  • 5 pairs leggings
  • 4 tops
  • 1 sun dress (oh God, I hope there is lots of sun!)
  • 3 vest tops
  • 2 pairs of Crocs
  • Wellie boots + long socks
  • Pyjamas, thick socks, woolly hat, gloves (for sleeping in)
  • 5 sets underwear
  • Poncho + umbrella
  • Hoodie

And if worse comes to absolute worst and all of our clothes are full of mud and wet, Camp Bestival have got The Indeset Launderette!
