Yarn Wrapped Letters

I bought some cardboard letters from Hobbycraft in preparation for Crafty October, but I wasn’t quite sure what I was going to do with them…I have decoupaged them in the past, and did think I would do the same with these letters, but then, after pulling out my box of yarn to crochet with, I thought why not wrap them up with wool instead?
And that’s what I did! I took this photo before deciding that I would do each letter a different colour.
Since a huge ball of wool wasn’t going to fit through the holes in the cardboard letters, I doubled up the black and coloured yarn and wound some round a piece of cardboard to make the wrapping easier.
It took me several hours to wrap the yarn around the letters – the ‘O’s’ were easy enough to do, but the ‘B’ was a little more tricky. It was just a case of trial and error with how I wrapped the letter, but it paid off, and I think the wrapped letters look cool!
I’m sure that there are other ways of doing this, and no doubt a search online will show how!
I then decided to join the letters together, vertically – I hot glued the letters together first, and then realised that might not be strong enough, so I also tied them together with black wool. A length of organza was tied to the top letter and tied into a loop with a bow and hung from our unit in the living room.
I really do love how this turned out – and it was quite therapeutic to sit and wrap the year around the letters – I think I’ll do this craft again in the future ;)
