Trash Bag Halloween Wreath {Crafty October}

Today, for Crafty October, I made another wreath…using trash bags!  I wasn’t quite sure how this was going to turn out, but once I’d tied the last piece in place and hung it up, I loved it!

I Gotta Try That

The DIY Dreamer

Crafting is expensive, lets face it…I wish I had unlimited cash to continually craft – but I don’t, so I turned to things that I have around the house, or things are cheap. I was lying in bed one night thinking of ideas for Halloween, and wanted to make a wreath using black and orange netting. Discovering that net/tulle is very expensive, that idea had to go out the window, and I thought to myself, “what about rubbish bags?”.

Whilst out shopping yesterday, I saw some orange and purple trash bags, and quickly bought them, knowing that they would be the ideal colours for my Halloween wreath. Instead of buying a pre-made polystyrene wreath, which aren’t cheap(!), I bought some insulating pipe from a DIY store, and created my own ring by securing it with brown tape. For the price of one wreath from the craft shop, I can have 3 or 4 of these homemade rings!

I started out by tying a loop in a strip of black bag, so that it could be hung up when finished and I also wrapped more plastic bag around the ring to cover it.

With that done, I then cut strips of each colour and just started to tie them around the wreath, using a double knot.

When I first started tying plastic bag strips to the wreath, I thought about cutting the excess down, and pouffing them out, but that didn’t really work, so I kept on tying until I ran out of room, and would decide what to do next afterwards.

When I saw the finished result, I was more than happy with the look, so other than roughing up the ends of the bags, I left it as it was!

I love the colours – orange, purple and black scream Halloween at me, and I love the striped effect going around the inside of the wreath. In short, I love my Trash Bag Halloween Wreath!
