Soda Bread

Ingredients

  • 150 g wholemeal flour
  • 150 g plain flour
  • 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 250 ml buttermilk

Instructions

  • Heat the oven to 200C/180C fan/Gas 6
  • Sieve the flours, bicarbonate of soda and salt into a mixing bowl. Tip the remaining wholemeal husks left in the sieve into the bowl as well.
  • Add the buttermilk and combine until everything comes to a dough.
  • Knead lightly, then shape into a ball.
  • Slash a cross on the top of the bread with a knife and place onto a floured baking sheet.
  • Bake for 30 to 40 minutes until golden and it sounds hollow when you tap the bottom of the bread.
